Damn those headlights...

Spent much of this afternoon fitting the front lights to the car, which now looks like a proper vehicle...

...however...

I can't fit the chrome bezels on the headlights. I spoke to GD and they said that they won't fit flush to the body, which is fine. I can get them to "snap" on, but then the fixing screw holes do not line up. If I try putting the fixing screw in loosely first, then I can't lever the bezels over the top of the headlight. As it stands they are held on by tension, with no screw backing them up...

Did anyone else have this problem?

RE: Damn those headlights...

mine were tight, but a little gentle levering with a small screwdriver in the screw hole with bezel in place and hey presto but the screw is still a little awkward to drive in

RE: Damn those headlights...

Got round to doing them this evening - I elongated the fixing hole by about 2mm and this allowed me to get the point of the screw in. That ain't comin' off again...

RE: Damn those headlights...

....Until SVA anyway!
You can guarantee that your beam alignment won't be right - but most testers appreciate that you don't have a fancy optical gizmo in your garage to set them up with - and will let you tweak them using theirs.

Due to suspension setting for the 350mm indicator height, when I set the headlamps to the correct aim the bezels wouldn't fit back on easily. A bit of persuasion was required shall we say....

RE: Damn those headlights...

Unfortunately here in Ireland we now have an MOT type test called the NCT (National Car Test). It is much dreaded and boy do I miss the British MOT now.

They failed one of my classic cars last week because the engine had a slight oil leak. They said a droplet of oil could cause a fatal crash and failed it on the spot.

Apparently they are now failing any car which shows signs of oil on the outside of the engine or gearbox, likely nearly all cars.

:f :f :f :f :f

Paul

oh, the also failed another car of mine because the rear license plate was lit from both sides instead of from a central light above or eblow the plate! I ended up having to temporarily fix an aftermarket accessory to a 1952 Bentley! ;(

RE: Damn those headlights...

Did you remember to shave 2-3mm off the static screw fitment to make adjusting the headlamps correctly easier.
Apparently this is needed to help get correct beam allignment.

RE: Damn those headlights...

mine was different, there was no hole for the fixing screw in the rim, so I had to drill one, ive got a completley crap fixing screw (supplied!), which needs to be replaced with something else as its countersunk and also looks to long to fit properly - i've just left it sticking out for the moment, I will do it as one of those "last minute" jobs.... so much more to do!

Erm, No!
I guess that explains the adjustment being so far out
