GD main fuse rating.

Hi Guys, anyone got the type and rating of the main fuse element that sits in the passenger footwell? I'm ordering a few items from VWP and thought I'd get a couple of spares. Anyone else got spares!!?

prob need to upgrade if additional items are fitted such as twin rad fans etc

RE: GD main fuse rating.

Thanks Craig. I believe I saw 50A stamped on my fuse. I was wondering about the type but the one I'm thinking is I've seen in VWP online cat and can take a 50A. I'll get one of those and the next one up. I have only a single fan. Don't like to be nuisance asking questions like this but when I'm away at work I like to plan things and it's frustrating not being able to pop out to the garage to check things, like the fuse or the size of the bolt holes for the steering column and its underdash support as I requested in another post. Any chance anyone??!!

RE: GD main fuse rating.

I have the twin rad fans, plus a few electrical extras.
I haven't uprated the main fuse, as it's rated 50 Amp continuous, but will "blow" at 100 Amps.

One extra that I did get from VWP this week was a battery master switch.
There's not much room to mount one in an accessible place.

The best I could come up with was to mount one in the passenger footwell - only snag is that it can get kicked. If switched off when running, you can destroy your alternator and any electronics (speedo, tach, ignition!).

Security battery isolator (VWP ref 60520, page 9) seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The key can be removed in the ON and OFF positions, so it's handy to keep on your key ring.
It's now installed in the car. It's connected in the battery negative lead. I've mounted the whole assembly in the battery compartment, so that only end of the lock barrel and the fixing bolts are visible from the passenger footwell.

You'd also need an extra cable making up, which should be at least 25mm2 cable, with CT25-10 terminals on each end.

Simon.

RE: GD main fuse rating.

Thanks Simon. The fuses are FS50 50A cont/100A blow and FS60 60A cont/120A blow. The battery isolator looks neat. I may fit one when I'm up and running. Good idea to fit in the -ve line. Shouldn't get kicked off with the key removed. Cheers, Trigger.
