Body Fitting ( GD Jag)

Hi
I`ve just reffitted my body after fitting the power unit. Everything looks right (all holes along the tunnel line up) but the wheels look to be much too far up into the arches & I`ve very little clearance above the air filter. (Chevy 350 ,torker 2 inlet & performer carb). The bonnet will only clear if I leave the wingnut off the filter.
What gap should I have between the body and chassis at the top of the tunnel?( I have 10mm ) Has anyone got any other reference measurments I could check ?. Also has anyone any info regarding the ride height setting , which might resolve my wheel/ arches problem.

Cheers

Malc

RE: Body Fitting ( GD Jag)

I had the same problem with a standard 3 inch air filter touching the bonnet,so i changed it to a 2 inch and it now clears ok,you can purchase a deep dish filter which sits further down on the carb to allow under bonnet clearence
when i fitted my body it was placed directly on the neoprene sponge on the transmission tunnel and allowed to settle,i found that some of the mounting holes needed elongating slightly to get them to line up,but managed to fit all of them. The suspension was then raised to get the correct clearence for the wheels via the adjustment on the coilovers:tu

Malc, not sure if I am understanding you correctly or not, but if you have put on the body again for the first time since fitting the engine which is why the wheels look like they are too far up into the arch. All you need to do is raise the car up on the shocks. This will not do anything for the clearance of the air filter but the car will look right. As far as what height it should be well that is all down to how you want it to look, bearing in mind that you might have to raise it when you go for an SVA any way.

Malc,

As Tinka says, don't worry about the ride height at this stage, things need to settle and you will need it fairly high to get light heights correct for SVA. If your looking for ISH ride heights then look for about 1" gap tyre to wing at the front and 1.5" to 2" at the back. My body sits on the foam strip at the front.

Regards

Jim

Mac
If the torker 2 inlet is 'tall' then you will struggle to get a 3 or even 2.5" filter under the standard scoop. I run a Holley Contender Manifold and have had to resort to low rider base and 2" filter with K&N extreme flow top.

Malc,
I run the same configuration in a Euro.
Do you have a carb spacer installed? - I don't.

For reference, the top of the air filter studding is 6 inches from the manifold mounting face of the carb.

Air filter is a 3" element, the housing is dished on the underside for clearance.

Tunnel/body gap sounds about right at 10mm.

Simon.
