Connecting the front lights to the main loom

Dear all,

I am unsure where to connect the wires from the front lights to the main loom.

From looking at the cars on GDs stand at stoneleigh it seems as though the connection is made inside the engine bay somewhere around the top of the radiator. To me it looks easier to connect them inside the wheel arch (using waterproof connectors) - what have you guys done?

connection inside the engine bay will be cramped, especially noting the proximity to the radiator and LS6 intake filter which (in Andy's words) is a "tight fit"!, are they any issues with connecting within the wheel arch?

Is also seems there will be a "long" run of dangly un-pclipped cable from the indicators to the loom, is this an SVA issue?

many thanks

Chris

RE: Connecting the front lights to the main loom

I think the loom runs along the engine bay on the nearside. The connectors for the lights are made inside the engine bay as per this picture (from Mike's Cobra)...

I think to connect the offside headlight the loom routes under the top of the nosecone, but it's best to check with Andy (or SimonP...!!)

RE: Connecting the front lights to the main loom

Chris,
I used waterproof connectors inside the wheel arches.
http://www.cobraclub.com/crcforum/user_files/4547.jpg

Note though, that these only accept ONE wire per terminal. Where the indicator wires "loop through" the front indicator connector in order to go to the side repeaters, I had to make the connection a few inches back towards the trunk of the loom.
I used soldered joints, then protected them with adhesive-lined heatshrink sleeving.

Since the photo was taken, the ends of the connectors have had "boots" made from self-amalgamating tape to cover the wires up to the area where the loom sleeving finishes.

I have also added a p-clip below the connectors, which deals with the SVA "dangly" issue you mentioned.
The p-clip on the indicator mounting bolt helps neaten things too.

Simon.

RE: Connecting the front lights to the main loom

many thanks, thats exactly what I was after.

I've got 5 way waterproof connectors assuming I could get more than 1 wire in a connector (both earths). might need rethink this bit.

Cheers.
