Re: Marina brake master cylinder bore?

Bowtie,

I didnt use a Marina set up on my AK but I used a Peugeot 24.5 mm bore master cylinder. Ask Ken what bore they use on their own Rover 400 series derived set up. Marinas are as rare as hens teeth so AK make their own pedal box etc now.

Cheers,
Tony

Re: Marina brake master cylinder bore?

B-ll-cks,

The bore is 25.4 mm not 24.5 mm as in post above.....suffering from morning brain fade !!

Cheers,

Tony

25.4 mm that'll be 1" then for our older members.

Re: Marina brake master cylinder bore?

Thanks a lot! That’s exactly what I wanted to know. I am building my own pedal box and I found this interesting and informative link on the Internet (look under Brakes 1 and 2):

http://www.donostia.demon.nl

Looks like the guy has done a good job calculating his DAX brakes. I just hope that he did it right because I use it as input when building my new brake system (I guess that a DAX and AK is quite similar brake-wise).

I now got a 1” master cylinder from a Toyota but it has a 9” booster. I have found a 7” booster from a Toyota Starlet (it’s really compact) but not a matching master cylinder from a Mitsubishi Galant (looks like the 1” one is quite rare). I did find a 1” MC on a Nissan Maxima at the junkyard but I didn’t have time to check if it will fit the 7” booster.

TonyD, what Peugot did you get your MC from? Did you use a booster (from what car and witch size please)?

Thanks in advance / Bowtie

Re: Marina brake master cylinder bore?

Bowtie,

The pedal box was from a BMW 5 series ( South African Spec) mated to a Peugeot 206 Servo, mated to a master cylinder from the Peugeot Rallysport range made for use with the Group N 206 Rallycars that run discs all round with four pot calipers at the front end. All the rallysport stuff ia available off the peugeot website.

I tried running with the standard 22mm peugeot m/c but the pedal travel was too long, with the bigger bore its perfect and the brakes are great, with good sensitivity too.

Cheers,

Tony

Re: Marina brake master cylinder bore?

I called Mitsubishi to get a price for a new 1” master cylinder. They wanted more than 4000 SEK + VAT (> £300)! I finally found one at one of my local wreckages. I asked the guys how much they wanted and I ended up getting it for free!

Next stop is finding a brake servo. The 7” one from Toyota Starlet is my prime candidate but, I got a new idea after I took a look under the hood of my neighbours Super Seven. He has used a brake servo from a Suzuki Swift and it is super compact! I found an old Swift at the wreckage but the servo was in a quite poor condition. I tested if the 1” master cylinder from Galant fitted the small Swift servo and it did! Maybe it could be an even more compact combination than 1” master cylinder from Mitsubishi Galant with a Toyota Starlet brake servo?

Has anyone used the small brake servo from a Suzuki Swift in a Cobra?
