    Fuel pipe routing

I now have my engine and gearbox in the chassis and having taken the mechanical fuel pump route am looking at how best to route the fuel pipe. It will go from the copper pipe that runs along the chassis which ends at the rear of the engine on the passenger side to the fuel pump at the fron of the engine on the drivers side. Then from the outlet of the pump up to the Edelbrock carb. Has anyone else already done this if so how did you route the pipes and why did you use that route.

Also the fuel pump is a Carter M6900 which needs 1/4" NPT fittings on the inlet and outlet, can anyone recommend a suitable supplier of 90 deg fittings and approved fuel pipe.

    Re: Fuel pipe routing

    Glyn,
I copied what had ben done on the GD demo car:

From the rigid fuel line, route the hose over the inside of the LH rocker cover. Use 16mm rubber sleeved p-clips to secure this to the rocker cover bolts. (pic 1)
Then route the hose above the water pump and behind the alternator down to the fuel pump.
Use a p-clip to secure the hose to the front of the LH cylinder head.

Dis-assemble and rotate the fuel pump components to achieve the best routing of the hoses.
Cable-tie the pair of hoses together in 2 places. (pic 2)

From the fuel pump, run the hose up behind the alternator and cable-tie it to the alternator loom, along the inside of the RH rocker cover. If you have run the alternator loom another way, use p-clips as above to secure the hose to the rocker cover bolts.

UNLIKE picture 3 shows, do not run it under the alternator (it will rub through), run it at the back of the alternator and attach a p-clip to the bolt on the back of the alternator.
The hose will come above the end of the rocker cover.

At the carb end, the hose does almost a 180 degree bend to meet the banjo union. It needs to angle down slightly in order to clear the bottom plate of the air filter. (pic 4)

    Re: Fuel pipe routing

    Glyn,
I got my hose adapters for the fuel pump from what used to be Rally Equipe in Bury - I think they only do rolling road tuning now, they struggled to find the ones I got.

You are best off getting the fuel hose from a "proper" motorists shop, where they sell it off the reel.
The big stores only sell it pre-packed on a card, and it just happens that you need a fraction over a metre to go from the copper line to the pump.

As long as it says "Fuel Hose" you will be OK.
Most aftermarket heater hose now has "Hot Water" or "Car Heater" printed on it.

The downside with this setup, is that if you don't use the car daily, you will need to crank it for nearly a minute to pull fuel up, over and around to the carb.
Fuel tends to evaporate from the carb, then once the float opens the fuel in the fuel lines will run back to the tank.
