Edelbrock carb dimensions

Hi Guys,

I'm still trying to work out whether an Edelbrock RPM package will fit under the GD bonnet.

I've worked out the distance from the large horizontal engine mounting bolt to the flange of the RPM manifold, but can anyone tell me the height of the Edelbrock carb from manifold mounting surface to the air cleaner mounting flange.

Will the Edelbrock carb take a recessed base on the air cleaner?

Does the Cobra oval air cleaner sit directly on the top of the carb or does it need a spacer?

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

it states in my intake manifold instructions that most 4bbl carbs are 3 1/4 inches tall from mounting flange to air cleaner

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

The cobra air cleaner does come with a spacer which raises it enough to clear the throttle linkage.

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Mike,

How thick is this spacer? Can you tell me the exact overall height including the spacer.

Is there anyway of modifying the linkage so that the spacer can be left off?

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Richard,

I finaly have those dimentions you were after!
From mounting hole on block to top of air filter is 490mm
spacer under filter is 25mm (this can be reduced I have been informed but by how much I can't say)

Cheers
Rich

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Rich,

Thanks for your response.

When you say the mounting hole on the block, do you mean on the engine mounts, the large horizontal bolt?

The Engine Factory engine looks great. Any problems so far?

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Richard,

yes the large hole that is underneath a lip on the block(points downwards)
Engine looks realy great in real life, as yet it is still on its pallet.
But i have no problems so far, loads of documentation with it!

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Rich,

This must be the surface face ( 2 large holes) which the engine mounts bolt onto?

If this is correct then you have to add a further 78 mm for the engine mounts and this would then make it around 10mm too tall for the GD. Did your 490mm include the central mounting stud/nut on the air filter?

I'm still considering the possibility of buying a complete engine from Engine Factory. I notice they don't use an Edelbrock cam but a Crane. Do you know which one and how does it differ from the RPM?

Re: Edelbrock carb dimensions

Richard,

I must confess I'm not up on engine performance parts, thats why I let it for someone else to sort out. Its either something to do with balancing all the parts to work with each other, or, cheapness
Have you looked on the edelbrock web site? There are many differant manifolds to choose from.
