ETB temp gauge

I'm still trying to sort out my ETB temp gauge which is reading high. To try and work out whether it's my gauge or sender at fault would anyone out there with ETB gauges (tinka, keith etc.) check the resistance of the sender unit at working temp, i.e. after a good run. Mine reads 28.4 ohms and i need to know if thats normal, too high or too low.

Cheers

Re: ETB temp gauge

Surely someone out there has ETB instruments on a RV8 and can go for a blast then check the resistance from the temp sender to earth for me, it's not much to ask you to go out for a blast in the car, is it?

just for you I started my car and woke my neighbours :finger: I love em.

Any way, resistance at start about 21 deg C 750 ohms, 80 deg C 240 ohms 90 deg C 155 ohms, 2 gallons later and thats the result. Hope its some help

Re: ETB temp gauge

Thanks Gary, assuming you do have ETB instruments then my sender is not "sending" the correct resistance, I now need to find someone to advise me on what reistor to put in line to "pull-down" the resistance to your figures until I get a new sender from ETB :thumb:

I do have ETB sender and instruments, 100 deg C is around 65 ohms, so your gauge must be reading pretty high I take it. I dont think its as easy as putting a resistor in line , if you look at the readings I took there is not a steady reationship that could be resolved with a fixed resistance giving any accuracy across the scale, just at one fixed point of your choice.

Ever noticed, nothings simple.
