Tool time! Torque wrench question..

A quick question on torque wrenches.

Ive got the option of getting a Norbar SL3 for £59.99 (new) and delivered. That appears to be good as the best I can see on the net is £80 ish delivered. Its range is 40-170lb ft (50-230Nm).

Question, does this have a good enough range or will I need one to go lower as well when building a GD? I can check the range on the Jag stuff and ford engine but Im not sure about the rest.

Many thanks

Re: Tool time! Torque wrench question..

Andy not too sure about the range you'll need for your GD but I've got a Norbar Wrench and it's fine.

Trouble is it's very difficult to get a torque wrench that will cover all eventualities as the ones that will go upto say 200ft/Ibs will not go down below say 40/50 and vice versa.

I've got the Norbar 1/2" one which is 40-220ft/Ibs and a Sykes 3/8" wrench which is 7-50ft/Ibs.

Also before you buy have a look on ebay, there's a good chance of picking up a Britool item for the price of the Norbar and I know which one I'd rather have!!! :thumb:

Re: Tool time! Torque wrench question..

I have two Norbar Torque wrenches 5-40 ft/lb & 40-170 ft/lb. I have taken both of them periodically to Norbar in Banbury and they checked the calibration for a nominal sum so long as you don't want an official traceable certificate of conformity.

I found them very helpful, just tell them you want to know if it's within spec. I think they charged about £7 each last time (about 18 months ago) which I thought was good value for peace of mind. Even did it while I waited.

Re: Tool time! Torque wrench question..

Norbar = excellent tool. I have used and abused my own Norbar torque wrench for over 20 years now, it still comes back for more.

40 - 170 lb ft will do most critical things on a Cobra.

Re: Tool time! Torque wrench question..

Cheers for the replies, Im pretty sure we use Norbar (well they look like Norbar! )wrenches at work and if they are good enough for us then I cant see much wrong with them. We of course have to have ours calibrated regularly but I dont think that will be too necessary but I will get it checked every two or three years.

how does that price sound?
