Colin,
Where in Telford are you? (P.M. me for security if you wish), I'll pop around and take a look.
Afternoon all
Anyone got any sure-fire/more accurate method of transferring the centre point of the gearstick from the chassis to the body in order to cut the hole out. I've tried several ways using the tunnel mounting holes as reference, but no surprise, failed to hit the same point twice - not out by much, but enough not to want to drill (yet). Unfortunately the two top tunnel mount points (which would have been ideal due their proximity to the gearstick) haven't been drilled in the body.
Thanks
Colin

I managed to use the lower mounts as guides by marking out some pencil lines with the spirit level on the tunnel area sides and top,and then measuring from these to mark out the required hole,I think it was more luck then judgement but it was spot on

Ditto,
I measured plumb down to the lower rear body mount holes, then along to the gearstick. I transferred these measurements on both sides to the body and marked it up. As a double check i did the same to the front upper tunnel bolts and measured back to the gearstick.
All worked out fine front to rear, but i forgot the stick is slightly to the drivers side of centre. Drilled the hole undersize though, so i can open it out to the correct position.

I measured from the gearstick along the top of the chassis top plate where the body would sit.
I then transferred that measurement to the body, allowing for the bulkhead thickness of 10mm
Make the hole as small as possible, (40mm) and enlarge when the body is in place. a dremel will make enlarging the hole a 5 min job.
I found the forward and rear "throw" of the gearstick may mean that a hole cut equidistant around neutral position is not be the best (the hole in my tunnel is slightly offset to accomodate the throws on my 6 speed plus reverse
when you're ready to put the body on drop me a email if you need a hand, I don't live far (Much Wenlock). my email is sgullick@medigas.co.uk

..and there is an AK near Crudginton; I was going to see him last night with Colin, but too short notice for me. A get together sounds great. Unfortunately I am out of the country Wednesday until Monday, so I can't make this Sunday.Originally Posted by Steve
