header/expansion tank position for LS engines

Hi all,

I tried test fitting my header tank last night & it looks like the mounting holes need to be drilled *under* the cross member rather than on the top. (lowering the overall height of the tank)

The reason for this is

(a) bonnet wont close (although body is sitting slightly low, as its not bolted up yet)
(b) water outlet from block is not lined up with tank otherwise
(c) Any higher and it looks like it would foul the air intake tube (which I dont have at the moment)

Any thoughts/ confirmation??

Cheers...

Yes that is how it is intended - using rivnut or hank bush fitted into the bottom of cross tube.
I puzzled about this and thought I could get away with a simple bolt, but no.

Chris
Hank Bush & Rivnut are generic terms for a `rivetted in nut`
Gerneral tech questions have a thread running now.
I am fortunate to have a friendly sheet metal basher two doors up and we used M6.
It depends how many you will need to do as to whether you invest in a tool.

Hum, well this is where I have put mine, and this is a photo of a car on the GD stand. Trust me it fits.

Paul,

That a slightly different tank, the LS tank needs to sit lower other wise it looks like it will foul the air intake. before fitting I will double check with andy

Re: header/expansion tank position for LS engines

The water tank is very close to the air inlet on the LS (hence the shorther water tank), but as long as you mount the water pipe from the block to the tank in a straight line, then mark the holes for the mounting bolts on the crossmember, it cant really go anywhere else.
