ford cologne V6 2.8

I have just finished my Sumo and have been to and from SVA. On the way back from SVA I picked up a mate that had driven in the original XR4i that the engine had come from. He stated that the engine is putting out about half the power that it should be.

After advancing the timing and fiddling with various other things we came the the decision that the engine was probably burning lean.

The injection type is bosch K jettronic and I have used the fuel distributer off a different xR4i than the engine came off.I have checked the plugs and can't see any white deposits so I am not sure what to check next.

aside from power problems the engine seems to run ok it flew through emissions checks with very low hydrocarbons and the exhaust does not smoke even under full engine load.

I have not fitted the fuel accumulator and this can make for the occasional hard start other than that I can't see that making any difference.

The fuel pump is brand new.

If anyone with a similar engine has any thoughts then please let me know!

Re: ford cologne V6 2.8

Hi Glenco.

I had an XR4i for many years. The Ktronic is ultra sensitive to mixture adjustment. 1/4 turn on the mixture screw will change it 5 - 10 percent on the CO. Get it set on a gas analiser, and you should find it's ok :thumb:
