Only made it 8 miles and somthing let go in my new engine of just 425 miles. Had to go home on the back of an RAC van. Oh the humiliation.

    Mark,
Where did you break down? Didn't see you on the A50 otherwise I would have pulled over. I hope the problem is not too major.
On the brighter side, it's a lot warmer in an RAC cab and improves the average mpg of your Cobra on the back of a flatbed.

    Cheers,
    Russ.

Made it just off the M1 and pulled over on the island just over the bridge.

Stripped the engine this weekend and found a butterfly retaining screw had managed to work loose and had had a really good go at wrecking not 1, not 2 but 3 pistons!

How the hell it managed to do that I will never know.

She's off the road again. Looks like 3 new pistons, a full set of gaskets and oil should fix it.

Thanks for thinking of me in the cold.

I find it really hard to imagine how it would have done for three pistons! Either it disintergrated and three seperate bits entered through three inlet valves, or it entered one, got spat out of the inlet and entered another, and then did it again on the third one! Don't bother picking any lottery numbers for a while eh! Are you sure your not confusing the evidence with a detonation problem?
