Another Newbie

Hi Folks,

I've been lurking here for a while and reading your posts with great interest.

Mine's a typical story of a young man, well boy, falling in love with a car and dreaming of one day owning one myself.

Well, many years later I find myself sitting here still dreaming and being no closer than I was all those years ago.

So I've vowed to make a change, if I don't make a start it's never going to happen. I plan to do most of the work myself as finances allow and at the moment have my sights set on an AK. I've been fortunate enough to go for a quick spin in one of their demonstrators which I was very impressed with and they all seem like a friendly bunch.

Progress will probably be slow as I've recently become the proud father of a little girl. I'm sure those of you who have been in a similar position will understand and I won't have to explain further !

Current plan is to buy an engine, probably Chevy V8 from someone like adricar and spend the next six months or so rebuilding it and start with the running gear and then chassis etc this time next year.

Wish me luck.

If there's anyone in the Oldham/Manchester area who's currently in the process of a build and may need a lift with something heavy or someone to say "no, left abit, right abit, no, back where you were the first time" I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Thanks for reading.

Ryan

Ryan,

Welcome to the club well both of them Firstly in bein a Dad and secondly the Cobra Club.
From experiencewith a new born you will be up in the early hours of the morning and will also find getting back to sleep very differcult. So what you do is go out in the garage and do a bit on car, thus making the build quicker.

Re: Another Newbie

I was clever enough to negotiate the build of the car before build of the child. Managed to get it road legal 18 hours before son & heir arrived :thumb:

He's 27 days old now and i've managed 260 miles in the toy. :-} Still grinning when i can keep my eyes open..

Oh and on the AK front, I met the guys up there, all v. friendly and during the test drive they proved the strength of the windscreen by taking out a grouse / pheasant at around 70 with no damage other than to my pants.

Re: Another Newbie

Hi Steve,

Would love to come along but I'm afraid I can't make the 10th. Another interest of mine is mountain biking and I'm taking part in the Polaris Challenge that weekend.

Basically it's a two day orienteering event on bikes, 7 hours on the Saturday and 5 on the Sunday to see who can visit the most checkpoints within the time allowed. There's also a beer tent and a live band on the Saturday night so it's not all hard work. This year, most of my training has been geared towards giving a good performance in the beer tent.

When's your next meet ? I'd love to come along

Ryan
