Hello all,

I've just invested on an SRV8 kit from Madgwick and will be getting my chassis in a few weeks.
Looking at some engine & gearbox options and rekon on a
ford 302 250hp/chevy350 260hp with a T5 box.....any thoughts?
I would be intersested in any feedback.
Looking forward to being one of Cobra gang!

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Mike,

Welcome to the mad house :thumb:
As for the engine....you'll want more power at some stage, but then you will no matter where you start (be it 250, 350 or 450!), I guess the only advice would be to buy the ancillaries to handle the power at the beginning.

Happy building

Regards

Jim

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Mike welcome to the elite club of SRV8 owners.....
The engine combinations you are considering are spot on for this car, mine has the Chevy / T5 and DaveN has the Ford / T5 very little to choose between the 2 the only saving grace is the Ford is slightly lighter than the Chevy. (did I really say that ??!!)
Both will cost you about the same.
I presume you are planning on using the Jag running gear etc, which if that is the case upgrading the engine in the future will not be a problem.
Where abouts are you based ???

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Hi Andy,

I,m in Fareham Hants.
I have been to Real Steel to have a chat about engine combos today but I have plenty of time yet to make a final decision.
Have you heard of an engine builder/supplier : Pauls Place?
He seems pretty competeative and he is based in Hants also about 5 miles from me!
Do you know of any sources to find a decent used T5 world class box?
How long have you had your SRV8 and are you pleased with it?
Cheers

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Hi Mike

I have a SRV8 as Andy S has said.
Ford 302 with T5 gearbox a few bits and the rolling road say's 300bhp with a dizzy at the right end.
Andy S has a 5.7 chevy and a few bits (cam etc) and is also getting 300-320bhp.
Keep in touch with your build as we are both interested.
D. Clarkson is re-vamping his SRV8.
I believe you will be really happy with your car. There are some who say we suffer from bump steer, but the madgewick guy's have done a really great job with this car and adjusted all the previous niggles. The SRV8 was a good car before they got their hands on it but now it really is a serious contender.
If it gives you as much pleasure as mine has given me you won't be sorry you picked it.
Good luck

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Cheers Guys,

I'll keep you up to speed on the build.
I'm sure I'll be bending you collective 'earols for advice in the future!
Dave/Mike at Madgwick rekon they have cured the bumpsteer issue so I'll be able to let you know when I get mine going.
Got all my Jag suspension parts stripped and ready for blasting so I have a way to go yet!

Rave on.

Re: SRV8 New Boy

Oh I forgot to say,go for the 350 chevy, more grunt and lots of torque! Go for the Tremic gearbox, it's more stronger and will take more power if you wish to tune your engine at a later date.
