One year to go !!

Well i've just written this years business plan and all being well - I'll be buying my first cobra in 12 months time.
So here I am - it's time to fully immerse myself in the this world I want all the info you can give me in the run up to my purchase. Pit falls, what to look out for, events whats hot - or not (so to speak).

Owning one of these cars has been my dream since I was a wee lad and now I am realistically 12 months away from becoming an owner - I'm no mechanic i'll admit that - i love the beauty the charisma and the thrill of these machines.

Looking forward to getting to know you all drop me a line and say hi words of advice are most welcome.

the countdown begins !!!

Jonny

Re: One year to go !!

Well Jonny

You will get many words of wisdom, some of sarcasm and some that are just plain daft. But, most of us here are very keen Cobra nuts all with our own opinions.

All I can suggest is get to see as many cars as possible and ask questions that need an answer rather than an opinion. Then jump right in and enjoy yourself.

Re: One year to go !!

yep, I agree with Paul, nutter all the lots of us..

My best advice is about the budget, you think its gunna be so much, well you can easily add another half on....Unless of course your buying ready built and in which case there is only 1 option as far as Im concerned....DB Relicas....the man..

cheers and welcome to the farm

Ben

Hi Jonny,

Where in the country are you? If you live up north go to the Harrogate kit car show, Sat & Sunday 13th & 14th August. There will be a few cobras there plus a couple of manufaturers.
Are you building or buying ready built?

Re: One year to go !!

Hi Chris

Yeah i'm up (or oop) north Leeds to be exact so harrogate is a short drive i may just do that as well - is it at the show grounds - ? and do i need tickets ?

I'm looking at ready built to be honest purely because it would prob take me years to build from scatch with my limited knowledge and more limited free time !

Re: One year to go !!

Yeah no worries, Dave Brookes, hes based in Stoke, and hes the main Dax build agent does em all the time, just ask on here for references, but his builds are top quality, if you see one of his you know about it.... http://www.v8cobra.co.uk/ heres his site... real good bloke goes out of his way to help out, and that is for people like myself who build em with out costing anything...

Re: One year to go !!

Hi and welcome.
Are you looking to buy a kit or a push n go as there are loads to look at and try out?
I'm in a similar boat. Although I have made no budget or plan as I have learnt that 80% of kit budgets and plans grow legs and run away.
My plan is to B.A.Y.E (Buy As You Earn) cos I know that when I have a busy spell I spend my money on silly things, thus not puting it itno the pot.
Once I have the project The £££ will go there! Just the way I am.
I spent a few years reading up, visiting and learning as much as I can about the kits that I had an interest in.
Local club meets and shows are also a good place to go to see examples and ask questions. Although I haven't quite managed to attend some of them.

My Choice will be the GD. In my eyes, if your going to be spending that much money, you might as well get something thats been proven on the track as well as a very well built kit!
I like the way the body is a seperate solid structure mounted to a well designed chassis. Not to mention the safety and strength of the body.
But it all boils down to personal choice. What is it you want and how you want to use it, Speed & handling / authenticity / for show / daily use?

Lets just say, I cant wait till the Next GD Open day. Fingers Crossed :thumb:

Good luck in your homework and enjoy what ever you decide to build or buy completed.

Re: One year to go !!

It's also worth talking to Gerry at Hawk Cars. His Kirkham cars are likely to be beyond your current budget but I would have thought his Hawk Cobras should fall within it.

It really depends on what your criteria for selection is, originality, price, "bling" etc.
If it is originality, then Gerry is definitely worth a call.
Cheers
