Another new person,

Hi all,

Just signed up to your lovely forum with the hope of picking up some advice over the next couple of months!

My girldfriends Dad has apparently been looking at buying something interesting for a while, and it's been a long-term dream of mine to build my own car (having hitherto been confined to 10th scale RC ones ), so we discussed the possibility of building something this summer.

In the end, a part-finished Pilgrim Sumo was found on the bay:

unfinished ac cobra mk3 pilgrim sumo on eBay, also, Kit Cars, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-May-08 22:36:15 BST)

So, we're hoping to get it up to scratch this summer!

Work is going to start around July...I can't wait!

Hi Tom

Welcome to the Money-Pit club !!

You will probably find that you will need more than a few short months as I guarantee you will take everything apart and start again. However, you have many of the bits so it's a good start.

My Sumo has been on the road nearly 6 years and over 20,000 miles and I still love it.

Have fun.

Paul

If you havent got one, get a build manual from Pilgrim, or get someone to copy one for you. Others will say it isnt worth much, but I found it very helpful. The Discovery channel 'Car is Born' DVD will also come in handy.

Any problems - just ask, and you will be answered!

Hi Tom

That looks a good buy for that price. Well done.

Are you planning on keeping the auto box or going manual?

Have fun and keep us up to date on progress.

Craig.

I have a feeling the car comes with the Pilgrim manual - so I'm going to have a good read of that ASAP I think. The DVD would probably also be a worthwhile investment.

craggle - We're going to change the box over to a manual - the chap who's selling the car has one, along with the side pipes too, which is a bonus

Paul B - I'm sure you're right. The ammount of work that needs to be done looks a bit err...mammoth! That said, we'll be working on it full time - but doubtless everything will take twice as long as expected

What are the factory like to deal with? There's deffinetly a lot of useful info on here too - the SVA fail list in particular looks very handy.

Hi Tom and welcome to the MONEY PIT as someone quite rightly puts it. One bit of advice is make sure you have a good read on the forum of all the bits that need modifying to get it to handle properly as it is far easier to no whilst building than after. There is someone who is documenting them which is a fantastic service for others to have a read of with pictures.

Good luck

Hi Thooms,

Welcome to the forum.

I think Tinka maybe thinking of this service:

How To Build a Pilgrim Sumo: Welcome - Pilgrim Sumo Online Build Wiki

Have you collected the car yet?
When the car has passed its VOSA SVA, DVLA will require at least the following documents:

1. Donor V5
2. Receipts for the body/chassis etc... from Pilgrim
