Thanks for your Help...

All your forum replies appear to be about jumping to conclusions and making judgements and are content with reading what Dave has learnt second hand

Now read what I know happened:

I rang CC of Kent and asked if they could run my car on their rolling road and set up the Edelbrock card (I gave them the full carb and engine data) They said yes they could and to bring it down on 14th March. I was met by Graham at the agreed time and told a specialist in Edelbrock set up would be sorting out my car. Simon eventually arrived, and proceeded to run the car on the rolling road, adjusted the timing, adjusted the mixture and fitted a pair of replacement needles. It was then I was told to fit a bigger fuel pump and filter if I wanted the car to reach 130mph or run better at full throttle, as the pump I had fitted was running out of power at full throttle, I was also told by Simon that he had only got a couple of Edelbrock needles with him and no jets ( a bit like a company offering to mend your roof but only having one tile…) so he hoped he had fitted what was needed. Did he forget to tell you that Dave?

Getting the car out of CC of Kent work shop the car backfired and blew a rubber seal off the carb. Once found it was re-fitted. I drove the car home and noticed how it had a flat spot on every gear change and throttle use. I emailed them, as I knew they had closed their works once I’d left. I received a reply fom CCofK the very next day and was informed the car needed to be set up again, it was the carb. I was told to purchase an Edlebrock calibration Kit. I also arranged with Graham to .to have the new pump and filter fitted at CC of Kent as soon as he could get hold of them.

On arriving at CC of Kent again a week later (Simon did not show) Graham attempted to fit the new pump and filter. He had not been told by Simon that a bracket was needed, so the pump was not fitted, and the filter had been received without fittings. We agreed that Graham would make up a bracket and he would fit the pump and filter “bright and early on the day Simon was going to re callibrate the Carb”. Did he forget to tell you that Dave? I doubt if Graham even told Simon that this is what we had agreed.

I had informed CC of Kent on 24th March that I would have the calibration kit within 2/3 days and asked for a return date. Simon does not respond to Grahams requests. I continue ringing Graham for a return date and eventually he tells me Simon would ring me direct. I wait and wait. I leave messages everywhere because I was getting the run around.
I sent e.mails on 15th March – replied to by CCofK next day
24th March – got the kit, is Simon Ok for this weekend
27th March – Is Simon available this weekend?
28th March – Ok is he available next weekend?
1st April – Is Simon available this weekend?
17th April – I still have not heard from Simon, have you?

I tried being patient saying I could make any day but nobody wanted to put right my rich running flat spot carb. Finally in frustration I left a message on Simons phone (7 weeks after the 1st visit to CC of Kent) to ask when he was going to be available. He sent a text back to say he was away and would not be back to the UK for a week. I texted back asking if it could be sorted the week he returned but he did not reply.

So I rang CC of Kent to see if again they would try and get a date from Simon for any dates, again no reply. So after 91/2 weeks I wanted my car fixed or my money back, and it was then I asked the Cobra Club for Help finding another company that could provide Edelbrock tuning.

Now I find out from Purple AK that CCofK had no intention of correcting their mis-tuning. Nice Company…..

Perhaps if Graham had told Simon the pump and Filter were going to be fitted on the same day the flat spot was to be corrected I would not have had to ask the cobra club for help and need not have had to reply to your “one sided” correspondence.

Dave, obviously you have a need to get involved with other peoples problems, but do not waste your time replying to this message as I do not need your motherly reply.

The car went to CCofK running a bit lean at top end, it came away with a flat spot and black exhaust fumes, what would you have done? Of course, you would have sorted the problem your self…

Actually, yes, many of us would have sorted the problem ourselves, as it happens. Eledbrock carbs are not that difficult to set up, so long as you have the relevant calibration kit. And pretty much any rolling road operators I know expect you to supply such a kit yourself. Which is no big deal, and without one they can't adjust much.

Face it, the number of cars on the road with these specific cars is tiny, and the calibration kit is specific to the size (cfm rating) of the carb anyway. So you can't expect chassis dyno operators to have them is stock. Few of them even carry Holley jets, and those carbs are a touch more common. These are dinosaur engines and carbs, after all.

Bob - it is a shame that you are not making progress, but as I hinted at in my original post, folks who turn up here and start adversly commenting on suppliers in their first post that others know to be of reasonable repute do tend to get a poorer response from long-standing members than otherwise. After all, what introduction did you give? Whereabouts did you say "please"? You just ploughed in and expected help and advice from people that you didn't even have the grace to say "hallo" to..........

On this thread, you already have one other chassis dyno operator suggested to you, and also some good technical tips on the specifics for your set up -what more could you ask for? And I don't see a "thank you" in your second post for that freely-given help.

I hope you get your problem sorted. Maybe if you joined the club and went to a few local meets, you might even bump into someone who could/would set it up better for you? Of course, you would have to be nice to them...........

BTW - "a bit lean at the top end" is a recipe for disaster - that is how detonation is triggered, and detonation destroys engines. Could be why they made it as rich as they could manage - to save your engine from self-destructing?

Bob. Lets just put the record straight (again)! I didn't say that KCC never had any intention of completing the work! They, or Simon, only backed away when you asked for a Written Contract that the car would be perfect when finished. Something I did say in my original post, and again something you have ommitted to say in yours.
