Question help

Hi i'm Wurz.

New to all this so here goes. Can I ask for some advice please. I am looking at doing a kit car. Not sure which one must be cheap (ish)I have a Sierra 2ltr dohc efi engine. I have been asking around and am being told to change it to carb. Tiger said will not fit there cars. So was it money wasted buying this. Cheers Wurz

Welcome Wurz.

1st rule of kitcar building is to chose your kit first then gather the correct parts. Deciding on the car based on an engine you have lying around will only end in tears.

If you really want to use your engine and build a cheap car you may be better off over on the Locost builders forum (LocostBuilders).

Hi There

If you want a Cobra replica then I think you are limited to a Pilgrim Sumo and possibly a Euro 427 but not sure if these are still available.

I imagine the reason people have said "change to carbs" is that the engine was probably fuel injected in order to make it more efficient. Adding carbs may well make it more powerful but it will also use more fuel. Tuning the Ford EFI may be difficult due to restrictions in the inlet casting and possibly the ECU.

Anythings possible though and an EFI engine will be a nicer, Smoother, cleaner engine.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Craig.

welcome to the forum !

I am no expert by any means but i sugest you first decide [b]which[b] kit you want to do. If you want to do a cobra replica i'm pretty sure Pilgrim still do a sierra based kit, not sure about the others maybe madjewick SRV8.

Key things :
-what is your budget
-what kit do you want
-running gear required ( sierra )
-when you know which kit have a look at all of the manufacturers, total costs etc.
-find a local meet or go to a kit car show and speek to some of the owners.

maybe some others can be more help, but decide which kit type first and go from there
