Thanks to everyone that has replied

Hi All,

Only joined the forUm on Tuesday with my question about buying my first Cobra, and I just want to say a big thank you to all of you who have replied with such helpful advice, and locally, offers of newsletters and meeting up for a good chat.

Just shows whAt a fantastic community Cobra owners are, and I look forward to becoming one once I have found the right car, which should be a little easier now, although may have to find a way of upping the budget!

Once again, thanks for all your help.

Andy.

Anything from 20 to gallons per mile!

All down to engine size, tune and size of your boots. I've seen Rover V8s as low as 8 mpg and big blocks as high as 18 but that can drop to, well, a few!

Why not post in the Newbies and pose your question.
Welcome to the forum.

well then, what does yours get and how big are your feet?!

Don't even go there. Still haven't got the thing running after a long layup. Should get into double figures with carpet slippers.

Unfortunately I do have big boots!

As I said, start a thread and see what the guys are getting with their various motors. Quite topical at this time of forecourt robbery.

Less than 1100 miles on my FE427 (stroked to 462cu) and it was giving 14 mpg.
With tuning and a bit of losening up, I won't be far of 16/18 mpg I reckon.
This was measured over 700+ miles of mainly town driving with some open road stuff.

My Chevy 350 HO in the Dax I had, consistantly 19 mpg as an average.

Snakebite's LS1 powered Chevy will do 28 mpg...........b'stard.

Look at it another way.......you don't use the Cobra that much, most are on limited mileage Insurance of 3000.
The 3000 miles will cost you no more than £1000 in fuel. Even if you cost in the Tax and Insurance and servicing, it's still not an over the top spend for a hobby/lifestyle.
The cost of the car is largely recovered on resale, unlike production cars.

It's certainly cheaper than erm, oh I know, anything equestrian!

Iwantacobra

Andy,

I thought I would throw in my 2 pence worth from this side of the pond. I waited 46 years (from 1962) to get my Cobra. Listen to these people they have been there/done that. When you first start off you will be sorely tempted to get the first one you see. You may even get lucky and it will be a great car for you but be careful at this point.

I used to have a friend by the name of Regler that lived in Grimsby some years back. He drove a Stag and I had my Pagoda roof. We used to take part in the Coventry-Stratford run. About the most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on.

Good luck to you Andy. Patience will win out.

Shush!! now you don't want to get my missus on here again stirring things up and talking about horses

Andy welcome to the club. I bought a SRV8 almost six months ago and have had a few jobs to do, so far nothing to taxing although I have had some advice off of the club members to get things sorted for which I am very great full I have a 3.5 RV8 in mine and can get 30-35 mpg depends on how you drive. Hope this helps

Regards Russ

stay away from horses

Horses are like boats in that they are a bottomless pit to throw money into. Although the more money my wife throws at her horse the less she objects to the money I throw at the Cobra. We all have to have our toys.
