Yet another newbie with no idea

Hi, Just signed up after reading some post's and realising I am not alone in knowing nothing about Cobra's (Or cars in general). My interest all started last summer when somebody pulled up next to me in a Petrol station in Milton Keynes last year, ever since then I have been saving my pennies and dropping subtle hints to the wife!

I am now at the point where I am tempted to make my first purchase. Looking to source a 2nd hand prebuilt car for circa £15-£18k. I have no idea of any of the technical differences, so please bear with me if I post any daft questions. Basically looking for something reliable (If that exist's in kit cars) and something that will not lose to much value!

The agreement with the wife is that I can buy a car, if I sell it in 3 years to go traveling for six months. Anyone any ideas if the residual value is any good on these beast's?

Anyway, enough bable, but look forward to getting advice and maybe attending a meet once I'm on the rd - Based in Huddersfield (Near Leeds)

Austin

Hi Austin, absolutely no reason why it should not be reliable. With that money you should be able to get yourself a fairly decent Chevy powered Sumo.

Best of luck and welcome

Welcome Austin.

To asnwer your key point - depreciation - there is little with these cars so long as you a: choose a good one to begnin with and b: look after it well.

Of course the prices they fetch reflect the economic times, so buying now and selling in 3 years could be a good deal!

Good luck in your quest, and don't buy the first one you see.

As above, and get along to your local meet, chat with the owners and newbies such as yourself, blag your self a couple of rides in different cars, get a feel for the different makes of Cobras and buy yourself an AK...............

Damn, damn I was doing so well being helpful and independent and that AK dominant gene just kicked in again !!

Seriously, research as much as you can and buy from the classifieds on the website.

Cheers,

Tony
Oh and welcome..........

Local Meets

Thanks for the suggestion of the local meets, it makes sense to see what people have and to pick up some tips. Can't make Newark as I am away that weekend, but would be greatful if anyone could let me know of any other local meets. (Huddersfield)

Thanks

Sell it....

Just so I don't cause to much concern, the line about selling in 3yrs is an agreement with the wife. The plan is to work on her for the next 3 yrs so I don't have to sell it! Watch this space!

welcome!
had the same agreement with my wife when i bought mine in January.....i can safely say that it is now off her agenda as she has fallen in love with it and is much cooler than her Picasso!!

I will say that it is a hobby and not a car...lots of things to tinker with but as a fellow "havent a clue about cars" there is loads of support on here and everything is quite simple with the help on offer!!

The only selling agenda in our house now is with me..and not right now either, but may look at something bigger in the future...!!!

PM Dixie...he has a fab car for sale well within your budget, and it is a stunner!
