Question Could I really....?

Hi All,

My name is Dave I'm from South Wales.

First of all great site, you all seem a friendly bunch!

I've always loved Cobras ever since I was a little boy and I promised myself I'd have one myself one day. I'd rather build one myself tho rather than just buy one. My problem is I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars. I'm a quick learner though, good with my hands and very determined when it comes to something I want, so my question is.....

could I really build a cobra myself???

Thanks in advance

Dave

Answer....Of course you can! Not that I built mine! (Broke it a few times though!)

You need to work out your budget and what you want to use the car for.

All you need then is a garage and some tools. Put loads of posts up even for the most trivial of jobs, someone will always have some useful advice.

Regards,

Pete

Welcome Dave,

Yes, I would think pretty much anyone could build a Cobra, you just need a bit of confidence the first time you have to drill or cut something and be prepared to ask hundreds of questions

Thanks all, I'm positive that you'll be inundated with questions from me when the time comes!

For starters anyone know any good books or dvds for my revision lol?

Dave,

Just go for it and of off course you can. I will be building one shortly after going through various options of buying secondhand, rolling chasis or a turn key. I decided to build my own in the end, due to the fact I can have exactly what and the satisfaction I will get will be immense.

My budget is around 22k, hoping to do it for less but it might be more. I am starting from scratch with xj6 axles that are stripped and well on the way to be being fully reconditioned. The cost of getting the axles upto scratch will be around £1000 inc the cost of the axles.

Regards books etc. Kit car is great, there is DVD with Mark Evans buiding a Sumo, but the best place is here. The site has been good to me and the folk here are a wealth of knowledge and always willing to help.

Paul

Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions - you may get flak for it, but there will be someone else who is relieved to find the answer. Building mine was a very steep learning curve - I didn't know what M6 meant (or what a rivnut was!!) before starting my build

Dave,

Welcome, even if you are from Wales....

There are so many bargains around just now that I think you should seriously consider a part finished or fully built car and then work on it to get the car as you want it.
Financially, this would be the cheapest way to go in the long run.

Just a thought.
