What makes you think the AK chassis is any stiffer? Same section steel and near enough identical design. Trust me, then flex just as much.

The body for my Dax came on top of the chassis as I bought them both at the same time. They had bolted it on in a few places too and it all lined up perfectly. You need to remove the body anyway to run brake lines, fuel lines, drill holes Etc. Once the body is back on a rolling chassis It still needs measuring and checking to make sure it's correct.

Gary

As you may have guessed the question of which car to buy comes up very often and is always met with the same replies, Everyone jumping and saying the car they chose is the best one out there.

Unfortunately there is only one person who can make that decision and that's you, Take a look at budget, and what you want from the end product. If a slightly cheaper build but still a great car is your thing then look at the Pilgrim on Ford running gear, If the original look is your deal then take a look at Crendon, Kirkham or Hawk cars.
For in between cars there is the Dax and AK and if you want a car that handles well and will do well at track days but still look great then check out GD, Dax De-Dion and Madgewick.

All the cars listed above have been in the business sometime and are all good cars. Any problems you encounter will have been seen before and that's where this forum comes into play. Just ask a question and it will be answered.

My advice is to look at the all the products, narrow your choice down and then visit those manufacturers. Take a close look at the product, not just how fast it goes on the test drive, or how good the tea is and see what suits you best.

I chose Dax as it fitted my needs perfectly and no other car came close.

Good luck again

Craig.

For peace of mind in these difficult times. I'd be looking towards a manufacturer with a full order book, who was working a 5 day week.

Very sensible advice, or if you can afford it buy all the manufacturer specific items at the beginning, chassis/suspension items and body are probably the key items.

That was for a self build, not a euro chassis factory built, they are seriuosly more expensive.

Currently deciding on which kit to go with and wonder what people thought.
The choices so far include. Dax,Pilgrim,Ak,Gd.
I`m from bedford so Dax and Ak are the nearest two(thinking of collecting parts instead of waiting for deliveries).
(also which donor easiest to aquire, sierra or jag?)
Cost and time isnt really an issue though i want a car to drive not to show.
Am thinking of a v8 i guess.
Would love to hear any advice or thoughts...cheers.

P.S. was at newark on sunday and only kit that stood out was AK.~(gorjuss car!) browny points for them.
Tho they were eating a jkt tayta so left em to it.
had the missus n kids in tow but a grt day out anyways..
P.P.S. anyone got any pics off the kitcar girls??(could only manage a side glance!).

Have a look at this: Cobra Club Forums - View Poll Results

It'll give you an idea of numbers of each type of car amongst forum members.

In answer to which car is best - that's easy. The one you own.

Mine is self build - Jag based in gel coat with a +/- 400hp chevy - cost me well under £20k to build. With hindsight I could of saved probably another grand or 2.
It is in no way top spec, but definitely doable for not much more than a Dax, AK etc.

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

GD JAG mk4 finally on the road (but not quite finished)

You did very well to build under 20K. My Dax has cost nearer £35K and I'm not quite finished with it yet!

Just goes to show that any of the cars out there can be built to whatever budget you have available, if you try hard enough.

Craig.

It probably helped the budget being a tight git.
Just got to find a reasonably priced petrol supplier now.
