    Cool DAX v GD.....any advice??

Just joined....just been convinced that building one of these beasts is well within my capabilities (the person that convinced me...clearly doesn't know me).

Anyway...i'd like any pros and cons with regards to do i build Dax or GD.

I know what i want in terms of looks and little extras....and because i'm not a track day boy....i'm going to stick an auto box in it!!...Yes before the purists hang me...I did say an auto box....i dont give a stuff about re-sale value....because i'm not going to sell it.

Budget will be circa 3k to 5k a month....until i get it just how i want.

Any advice greatfully received....i'm going to Stoneleigh to find out more....but i'm placing my order before then!

Also anybody know of a workshop/garage to rent in hertfordshire??...i've only got a double car-port!

    Thanks

    Ian

Better off waiting till Stoneleigh you will get a better price. I am building a 427 Dax Dedeon and so far so good. Just wondering if you are going to follow the masses and put an American muscle V8 on that auto box or are you going to do something different?

Ahhh...thanks for the info....do they give better prices at the shows then?...i'll make sure any deal i do with Dax or GD will be on the basis that i get the same deal as anyone who buys at the show

I'm also looking at a de dion....with regards to engine....you're confusing me with someone who knows about these things dobbo!....i haven't got a clue....the advice i've had thus far is that the american blocks and auto boxes seem to fit very well together....why?.....what are you planning for yours?

I went to the guys at DJ on Saturday and have to say they were really helpful....i just hope i'm up to the job!

Ian, I'm putting a 5.4 ltr V12 BMW engine with auto box(only cause can't find a manual to fit) the only reason I say about the American engine is because that is the norm I wanted to be different. Don't know if I have bitten off more than I can chew though as need to sort out ABS and traction control signals so engine does not go into limp home mode. It also has 4 ecu's which is madness. One good thing about the engine though is you can bolt 4 turbos onto it without too much modifying.

Simon at DAX is a pleasure to do business with and Andy the new co owner is also very good. Just be aware if you do go for the DAX then you only need the lower wish bones, hub carriers front and back. Brakes and drive shaft and diff, all rest of parts supplied by DAX. What I am trying to say you dont have to buy a donor car to get all the bits. I made the mistake of buying a whole car and then realised did not need that much. Good thing though is I got the V5 so will hopefully keep the age related plate.

So if you go for the DAX you will not be disappointed.

What's the rush ? With that kind of budget, there's some serious options open to you, there's plenty more to look at than just Dax or GD.

Not sure I understand why you'd place your order before "going to Stoneleigh to find out more", It's only a couple of weeks away !

Ryan....there isn't a rush as such....but have you ever heard of analysis poralysis???....one can spend too much time looking into things without making any sort of decision.

Every man and his dog will have an opinion one way or another I guess....but i was looking for a steer on whether one was better than the other. From what your saying there are possibly better opportunities out there given my budget?...if so...what are they?...cos i genuinely dont have a clue.

I know Stoneleigh is only a couple of weeks away....but why wait?....if the general concensus is Dax for instance....then it doesn't make sense to wait and run the risk of other Cobra hopefuls at the show placing orders....meaning they eventually they eventually get round to mine god knows when.

Be really good to hear which manufacturer in your experience delivers the best package

    Thanks

    Ian

PS...i'm "going to Stoneleigh to find out more"....because i know zilch about these things....apart from the fact the look, sound and drive amazingly well...imho!.....i'm in the NEWBIE section remember!....be gentle with us folk

Hi Ian. Anyone (including me) that answers your question will have some form of bias towards their chosen manufacturer! You are looking at spending £20-£40k here and I'd be poorly lacking if I didn't tell you to Slow Down, Take a Breath and visit ALL the manufacturers at Stoneleigh and sit in some cars before you make that life changing decision! It's a big commitment.
