    Matt,

Sorry to hear how you came to own your cobra, but welcome to the fold. I am building my GD (well, currently waiting for the chassis for my GD) over by Bosty Lane. If you need any help, extra pair of hands, tools etc, just let me know and I will see what I can do. Although I am still in the early stages of my Cobra build, I built a Ginetta with a Pinto engine a few years ago and managed to get it through SVA so I am more than happy to lend my rather limited experience to your project!

    Hi Tony,

Sorry it's been a while but been up to my eyes in it.

I am popping over to the unit in Brierley Hill on Saturday to clean my dads boat and take some pics ready to sell it. If you want to come over and give the Cobra a look over then you are more than welcome to.

If you just want to meet up for a chat though rather than come over to Brierley Hill then we can meet up on Saturday late afternoon, early evening if you want.

    Let me know anyway.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the offer I will keep you informed. I am more than happy with the generous offers of support from people on this site, it's comforting to know that me and my brother aren't alone as we really don't have a clue about building anything realy let alone Cobra's.

    Thanks again,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

What time are you thinking about going over as the blagging half of the build team should be coming over in his Cobra from Grantham on Saturday lunchtimeish and two heads are better than one.

I'll throw a few tools in a bag and we'll have a couple of hours of fettling/ freeing up etc.

I'll PM (private message) my phone number and address.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    Hi Tony,

Yeah that sounds great. I am going over for about 10am and staying til about 2 so not sure if that will be good for you if you have someone coming over.

I saw your email with your contact details but clicked off it and now can't get back in my emails to save your details. I will keep trying though.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Tony,

Managed to retrieve your contact details in the end. Still getting used to navigating the site lol.

I will give you a ring Saturday morning if that's ok?

    Thanks

    Matt

For those interested Matt and his brother have inherited an almost complete early British Racing Green Pilgrim Sumo based on a Ford Cortina. It has a tuned 2 litre Pinto engine running a vernier/ adjustable cam and a very nice set of Twin Choke Webers.

The build quality looks good with the correct spacing for clips etc and with a bit of fettling ( instrument bezels, seat base heights for seat belt mountings, bottom of dashboard return, brake rebuilding, engine tune, fit straps to hold down petrol tank and fit IVA friendly petrol cap amongst other things) it should be able to pass the IVA.

The engine turned over freely by hand with the plugs out and some WD40 down the bores for good measure and I am confident it would have started if the starter motor solonoid hadn't been stuck/ inoperative/ buggared after 4 years inactivity. So sorting out the starter motor is the first job. Sorting out/ rebuilding the brakes will be the second.

All in all its not at all as bad as I feared and a few weekends work would see it out of the garage and on the road.

Now, wasn't Wilf looking for a boat?

    Cheers,

    Tony

PS Eyes and goolies safe for Le Mans as the Mrs broke her leg on holiday so as her full time carer I'm racking up further goodie points like no tomorrow.
