Maximum height?!

Hi,
Having acquired a love for these cars I'm concerned that being 6'5" I may not have the chance to drive one!

Is anyone else that tall - should I get a ford escort instead?!

Please say it's ok!!!!!

Charlie

Re: Maximum height?!

Hi and welcome,

best bet is to find someone local to you and hopefully they will let you place your body in their car for as trial fit, or pop along to one of the manufactures for a test drive :thumb:

Any lanky drivers out there

Hi and welcome,
A number of manufacturers offer extra long footwells for the larger driver. :thumb:
I know Dax do.

Re: Maximum height?!

It depends a lot on where your height lies - back or legs.

I am 6'3" and fit quite reasonably into my car, but they are all different - try the various makes and settle on the one you "fit" best. Some manufacturers can supply extended foot boxes etc. to help out.

One thing to remember - they are much, much, more difficult to fit in with a hood on! (I don't have one).

I know one 7' guy in the 'states who loves his Cobra!

Re: Maximum height?!

Are you 6'3 Wilf? The last time I stood next to you, I looked you in the eye & I'm only 6' nowt . Methinks its to do with our posture whilst driving these mad machines!
Seriously though, much depends on your seats/runners. The more seat padding you have the worse the scenario is. Similarly, with a thick set of runners & an 'original' style seat you can easily find yourself looking over the screen to drive, as I have noticed twice when driving 2 different Hawks

Re: Maximum height?!

Thanks for the replies - good news then it seems.

I'd be looking to come in at the bottom end with my first purchase (as soon as I can) which is probably within the year.
Need to arrange garaging though which may take a while.

Great car, very very excited

Re: Maximum height?!

Can I ask a couple more questions. I really know very little at the moment and would appreciate some help.

Firstly, can someone talk me through the wet weather tactics? Most are clearly not driven in the wet but surely when out for a sunny day in the country, 100 miles from home it will alomost definitely start to rain! Any links to pics here would be great to see what wet-weather gear is like in action.

Also, is there anyone on here who keeps their car in anything but a garage (public NCP?/off road with cover? etc)

I'll be looking to spend £10k ish and it'll be used about once a week to forget about my job/house/dog/wife (no not really dear) and get my hair ruffled. I'm also a relavtively young male and so insurance will be sky high. What does this combination suggest I should be looking at (and links to a pic?)

Thanks in advance.

Re: Maximum height?!

I would say that wet weather gear is a must if you intend to do any mileage, I've done 5000 in the last two years and have needed the hood on a good number of occasions.
After all this is the UK. :thumb:
We would have drowned yesterday on the way home from Castle Coombe if not for the hood.

Re: Maximum height?!

charlie,

To save money on your garage you could go the route I took.
Timber- pre made by a local shed company.
It cost exactly £1,000 delivered and erected.

Its 16'x10' (bigger than a standard single garage) and properly treated should last donkey's years! :thumb:

Re: Maximum height?!

Looks great I have to say - but with a city centre flat not even room for that! We have about 6ft square balcony 4 floors up - maybe a flat pack!

Not an ideal situation so may have to wait a few years 'till we move. At the moment I keep a VW Golf in the city NCP.

Any suggestions for a first cobra? I feel a little unworthy as I don't know a lot about models, details etc. However if I start now and keep learning I may become honored enough to drive a dream machine!!

Thanks guys
