I am new to the Cobra Club, but not to the marque. I built my GD427 during 1992-1994 using the Jaguar base. I found the build to be extremely straightforward and am very impressed with the overall result. The 10,000 miles covered since the completion of the build have been really enjoyable and generally good fun. I think the best time was when we spent 3 weeks touring around Northern Spain. The weather was fantastic and gave us a real chance to drive hoodless. The local people fell in love with the car and some even applauded as we went by - quite something. At one hotel, when it looked like it was going to rain, the owner took his own car out of the garage so I could put the Cobra in. He just hated the idea of me putting the hood on the car!
However, I am now living in France and the French authorities, and also the French insurers, have no enthusiasm for hand built cars. I have been trying to insure and register my GD427 for the past 18 months but to no avail. I joined the French equivalent to the UK Cobra Club - Club Martin- who have been extremely helpful but I still cannot overcome the problem of homologation, without which, it is not possible to register, or even insure, the vehicle. It stands therefore in my barn and I have little option but to sell it and would be open to fair offers. If anyone would be interested I can provide pictures and details of spec etc. My e-mail: "farrell.leslie@wanadoo.fr"
Best wishes to those in the process of building your Cobra, writing this has brought back a lot of really nice memories from my own experience.
