| Re: Toyota 3ltr Gearbox Bill I`ve heard some good reports about the toyota gearbox - but make sure you go for the right one. The one to go for is from a toyota Supra 3.0 litre turbo - it is known as the R154 The non turbo Supra has W - series box which is not up to the job. The twin turbo Supra has the 6speed V161 (I think) and as far as I know, although stronger still, there are no bellhousings/adaptors available to make it fit. Hotrodders "down under" use the R154 a lot due to the price difference between toyota`s (apparantly there`s plenty in the scrapyards there) compared to importing a tremec for example from the states. These guys give many good reports as the toyota box being "near indestructable". I myself have a R154 sitting in the workshop which came along at the right price and a bell housing/clutch conversion is available from.... http://www.classicconversions.co.uk/r154.htm If you look at some of the Supra forums on the net, some of these guys are putting very high hp figures through the same gearbox. Although I realise it`s torque that destroys boxes - some of the Supra guys are putting a lot more torque through them than I ever would need to.

| Re: Toyota 3ltr Gearbox hi bill i have been using a supra box for the last year no probs. bought complete with bellhousing conversion for 300.00. box has been fine and i have abused it (as you do!). however last week i noticed my bellhousing has cracked through the mounting hole for the slave cylinder. not had it out yet so dont know why it happened. made a braket for the slave cylinder myself not too much trouble. made by company called dellow automotive (aust). i ordered a clutch fork from them by fax last year - received within 4 days. (65.00 inc carriage). if you need the number ill try to dig it out . if you come accross a bell housing let me know!! regards adam |
