Sorry to see that you're selling Paul / Ann.
I'm sure you have you're reasons, so what's the new project?
Nice car BTW I never did get to see it in the flesh.

Oops! First time we've tried this and didn't realise the limitations in number of files. Will have to cheat and put the words plus a few more photos in a separate thread - hope that's ok!
It's a lovely beast and is for sale at £23500 or thereabouts.
For more detail see the next thread!
Cheers, Ann and Paul

No doubt the purists will hate this, but ( this is Ann typing) I have arthritis and do NOT want to give up driving a Cobra so I need help: assistance with clutch and brakes would help, but the absolute must is power steering. Despite what Andy Burrows says, I find slow speed manoeuvring impossible and >90 degree corners tough. I can manage on the day, but suffer the following one - and that seems daft to me.
So we are going for a modern incarnation, maybe a Dax or an AK - which has the things I need. Paul is sacrificing authenticity for me ( oooooooh!)
Any views on power steering on these two? Paul seems to remember reading that the EPAS on the Dax didn't help that much on an earlier car ( 2007?) Is that true still?
We are also going for a hard top option so we might be able to meet the South Wales group sometimes without panicking about the weather.
Hi Ann and Paul,
My Dax (2002) build , when i sold it had a power clutch (servo assisted) and EPAS.
The EPAS made the car very easy to drive and manouvre, basically a modified Corsa EPAS column.
I think it made the car more of a pleasure on long runs, and made it quite "chuckable" into corners on track days.
The servo'd clutch also worked well but would have been better still if a vacuum pump had been fitted too.
I don't know if you have already but I suggest you talk to Dave Brookes (DB Replicas) he can build you a Dax in any form you like and also probably does the best hard top out there.![]()

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.
GD JAG mk4 finally on the road (but not quite finished)
Currently got more hp than talent.
It should be a faily easy job to convert clutch and steering EPAS (electronic) probably requires new column, HPAS(hydraulic) requires new steering rack, If Andy Burrows says you cant have it, then he is in the wrong job!, contact AK i'm sure they would help, mine is HPAS, and i love it!, clutch is very easy to sort with a kit from Car Builder Solutions ect, HTH

I'd also add to Paul's post that GD have a new hard top in development. Seems a shame to sell a car you know and obviously love just for a few creature comforts that can be added I'd guess, an awful lot easier than building a whole new car.
GD MKIV (yes... in black ! ) the big box of bits has gone and been replaced by a great big grin

Ann
i've fitted power steering to my jag based GD.
very easy, and handles reallly well
I would fit it again in a GD with no hesitation.
all up cost was under 300,
there is no real modifications to make, standard racks, standard pumps, and the rack bolts right to the GD rack mounts.
a couple of chaps other than me have driven it, felt spot on.
pm me and can run through what you need to do, but with a little planning, it is a very easy swap.
best bit, is that with the pump i used, you only get assistance at parking speeds, so the steering remains properly weighted on the move

Thanks for all the ideas - but the decision is made to try another Cobra experience before we're too old to be able to get in and out!
For the record, Andy Burrows hasn't said it can't be done. He just feels it's not necessary and that's almost certainly true for most people. Andy's actually been very helpful so I do NOT want to give the wrong impression about him.
We also want to try an LS engine and although you're all correct in that the GD is great, we just fancy a change.
It's our way of keeping the Cobra industry going!!!!!!
But we do appreciate everyone's interest and suggestions.
Cheers, Ann and Paul
I can't help but think that you you may have a touch of Alzheimer's as wellI don't think anybody in their right mind would swap a GD for a Dax/ AK
All the modifications you require can be done to a GD quite easily. As for the LS engine why not sell the rusty old iron block and put in a cut out LS2. To me it's a no brainer and would save yourself a fair amount of money and have a better car at the end of it.
