How esasy is it to convert from a 3.5 to a 3.9?
What was the cost new?

Block needs boring out to accommodate wider cylinder liners - then its a matter of rebuilding as normal (with appropriate pistons, con-rods and crank). I understand the ptential for trouble lies with the fact that the casting of earlier (up to SD1) blocks was variable and the boring out of the cylinders may create very thin walls leading to porisity (?) problems [I think]. Also liners sometimes have a tendancy to "slip" causing other problems.
