Mini Heater

Hello all,

I am currently refurbing my mini heater and have the following questions;

Is the existing mini face plate used?
If not I am assuming the 'knob' is???
Is the switched used or can this be replaced?

Ideally I would like to not have to use any of these components but if I have to I'll order some new ones.....

Any advise would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Brian C

Re: Mini Heater

Hi Brian

Throw away the mini face plate and make your own out of stainless plate, use the knob and the switch.

The heater knob will not pass the SVA, I took the knob off and pulled the dash forward so the lever was behind the dash.

Re: Mini Heater

If anyone is interested, I am currently trying to fit the VW Polo heater to replace the existing Mini heater which is really not up to the job.

I have cut the front section off the Mini assembly and made a few mounting plates to attach it to the Polo heater matrix and blower. This should give allow the air to be directed either to the screen or footwell and be much more efficient.

I will get some photo's if anyone wants to see what I have done.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a drier, warmer New Year !!

Re: Mini Heater

Brian, I overcome the problem by mounting the heater slightly further back and fix the front mounting to the horizontal piece along the back of the bulkhead. The dash will sit in front and cover the whole assembly.

I have simply set the heater knob to screen as thats all I beleive the SVA people require, as the screen must have a demister. All I will have then is a switch in the dash to turn the blower on or off, if ever I feel the need to warm my feet simply reach behind the dash and slide the knob over.

It must be said im not having a roof so il only be out on hot days, so the heater for me is simply another SVA pain in the rump.

See the pick it shows the front mounting, you can just make out the hanging control knob that I have yet to re assemble.

Anthony

So you will only be using the car the car for 2 weeks in the year, thats all the sunshine we get in the UK.

Seriously, the Mini heater is only fit for passing the SVA, any speed above 50 mph it blows luke warm.

Even in frezzing weather the Polo heater blows red hot in the footwells and keeps your lower body warm.

Re: Mini Heater

Mike,
Where did you get your mirror arms from? The ones I got from Pilgrim are just about ok without the sidescreens on, but with them fitted I can't see the n/s one at all.
regards,
Keith

Keith

They are the Pilgrim ones, I found the rear visibility so good, I have now got a pair on my AK.

Re: Mini Heater

A very good point mike, however I cant see there being any fun in trying to tame 350 race horses in the wet so to stop temptation im staying clear of a roof, it can always be added at a later date.

I wouldnt bear to see her dirty either so on the wet days it will just be getting another layer of polish in the heated garage. Cold I can also deal with via a thermal layer or two.
