Spring Rates

Does anyone happen to know what the Sumo rear springs are rated at ?, at any thing above half throttle the rear end is on the bump stops, dampers are at max and ride height is correct.

I know Pilgrim can suppy uprated springs but Monday is a long way off but its bugging me, I just have to know

Next step SVA

Re: Spring Rates

Most of our customers want heavy springs, some got 700 lb.
I believe Pilgrim stock springs up to 65O lb.

Checked mine today they are rated at 700lb and are set about half way up the spring platform. You can just about get a finger between the underside of arch and top of tyre.

Re: Spring Rates

Thanks chaps,

700 lb , those are real beasts, I was under the impression standard was 550 lb for some reason so that would explain why they are a tad soft.

Once again thanks :thumb:

Re: Spring Rates

Willy is right, we all want heavier springs... I think I have 650 though for the rear. I hope that'll do for my rover V8.

Re: Spring Rates

Michael

your springs are rated higher than mine at the moment and to be fair they do give a very comfy ride, just not so clever when you dump a hefty lump of BHP/Torque through them.

My car looks like a snail dragging it's butt when you give it some , a green snail at that

Re: Spring Rates

I choose heavier springs since somebody told me that there was a whole phylosophy behind the springs... it makes your car easier to handle since the wheels have more contact with the road.
The idea behind the springs is to get the wheel quicker back down on the road whenever the coil is compressed. The faster this happens to more contact your wheel has with the road. At least that's what I was told. Of course overdimensioning the spring will give the car a bumpy rear. So a good balance is important.
The guy I took this advice from had his car measured by racingpro's, and they adviced him to get heavier springs, after they installed the heavier springs he didn't recognized his car anymore...
