Spray job???

I am finally at the stage of getting my Sumo sprayed. I live at Long Eaton near Nottingham. Does anyone have any knowledge of any good paint shops near me. I am also interested to know, (If people don't mind saying), who much is the going rate? and does that include preparation. I am only after a single colour (No stripes).

Can anyone also let me know the right way to go about preping the car for spraying, or is this best left to the paint shop?

Thanks
Greenster.

Greenster,

I know of a good place in Burscough near Ormskirk, perhaps that is a bit too far for you to tow!

Re: Spray job???

Hi Greenster,
I don't know how much you are planning on spending on the spray job.
But if the want the VERY BEST, the man to talk to is pretty close to you.
Tony Furfaro at Furfaro Coachworks, Quarry Hill Ind. Est. Ilkeston.
Not cheap, but he ranks amongst the very best...in the world !!
He takes exotics in from all over the world for body work and paint, including all of Frank Sytner's cars. You may have seen Frank bend his 289 at Goodwood, Tony is currently repairing that one and the rear end of another 289 that got bent.

Re: Spray job???

I've been looking into this myself, and preliminary enquiries suggest about 1500 - 2000 for places in around Sussex. You can always get Pilgrim to do a 1000 job on it, but it won;t be perfect. Alternatively, SMS in Lincolnshire will be about 3500+, but that really is the pucker item.

cheers,

Kevin

Re: Spray job???

whether you pay £1000 or £4000 by the end of summer it'll be full of stonechips, the way i see it is do i pay £3500 for a paint job or £750 each year for 4 years andstill have a car that looks good, anyway who can tell how good or bad a paint job is at 70mph? :thumb:

Re: Spray job???

I agree with Tony .

If you are really going to use the car, attend track days etc then I would not be inclined to pay out for a top notch job (first good stone chip will have you in tears).

Also when you inadvertantly sit on the garage door remote, (chucked on the driver seat), and the garage door shuts on the car (whilst its pulled half out the garage so you can see what you're doing), it doesnt hurt quite so much as it would if you had paid lots of dosh for the paint work

Having a car in gelcoat definately has its advantages!!

I dont know who does GD work, but they are probably close to Nottingham (ish)

What do you call a resonable price?

Re: Spray job???

greenster - Pauls Motor Bodies, Barwell, nr Hinckley 01455 846849. Has sprayed many a Crendon.

Actual paint job will be same as/better than (?) SMS, but the secret is in the prep, and they are extremely thorough with the prep there. Not cheap mind you.

Re: Spray job???

Abyss...the exhaust at JP Exhausts was £420, but this did not include manifold.

Wilf Leek, thanks for your reply, I have had it sprayed by at a VW repair Centre Just o/s mansfield. They had it a month and have made an extremely good job of it...it's true when you say the secret is in the prep.

Greenster.
