| Sumo carpet templates anyone? After much humming and twitching I have finally finished with the carpet templates I inherited from Danny Mann. If anyone is doing there own carpets and would like to be the new custodian let me know. Alternatively, I am happy to be the carpet template monitor for the foreseeabl;e future. Let me know.. For those unsure whether to go the Pilgrim pre-cut route, or go for a homebrew version, heres my opinions for what its worth..... - going the Pilgrim precut route will see you sorted in a weekend or so. But the carpet is quite thin, and there are areas where I didnt like the fit (as I am a Pedant, first class honours). - going your own way: good quality wool-based mix carpet will cost about 100 (so a little cheaper than the precut set) but you will need to ad on the cost of binding, so total cost about the same. You will also need to either cut your carpet the same using aforementioned templates, or (as I did) use the templates as a starting point, and then modify to make a neater fit e.g. round door sills, footwells etc. Its taken me quite while, I guss 7 or 8 full days effort (ignoring breaks, 'family commitments' etc) to get all the carpet cut to my satisfaction, and now awaiting final binding. But I am dead pleased. cheers, Kevin |

Not any more, the current Pilgrim price list has the carpet set ar £250 (ouch) So a self trim is about 100 quid cheaper I'd like to take on the templates, as we have 2 sumos to do. Ta Chris |

| Re: Sumo carpet templates anyone? Laurent, I'll try and take some pincs this weekend with the camera - but as I havent posted pics here before, you might like to send me a private email address, and let me know if theres a limit on the attachment size I can send. But I havet got everything bound yet, only about half the carpet which I got my trimmer to finish off as a trial run, to test the precision on my trimming. I have also changed a number of things - like I cut an entirely new piece which runs along the bottom of the door sill (no template), to ensure a neater fit than the pilgrim set, and I have also mounted the carpet pieces sperately in the footwells using carpet stapled onto ply sheets (using the same technqiue used for covering the dash with tabs that fold over the back of the board) - it squares off the carpet and makes the edges look less rounded and the fit less crumpled (ie amateurish). Chris - email me some contact details and I'll post them onto you next week. If you just cut the carept as per the templates, you should have no trouble, but I would suggest you take a look at some finshed sumoes to see if you;re happy with the standard fit - I decided I could improve upon it, but it is more hassle! | Re: Sumo carpet templates anyone? Hi Kevin, Just waiting for the car to come back from the sprayshop. I have a set of pilgrim carpet templates...once i've finished with them I am happy to share them. My brother recently carpeted his sumo with a set purchased from Pilgrim. Although he is happy with them he has said they are not the best fit in the world. I am interested in a look at the photos if you wouldn't mind sending me some. My email is : thegreens@breaston21.fsnet.co.uk Many thanks Greenster. |
