Number Plate Light

Hi again

I have read of people taking the wire for the light "through" the boot lid. Is this possible with the Sumo and if so are there any tricks to what looks a real fiddly job?

Cheers

Phil

Re: Number Plate Light

You can run the wire through the rib that runs around the edge, drill the entry and exit holes as required and dont forget the grommets.

I attached a nut to a thin wire, poked it in one of the holes then dragged it around with a magnet from the outside, two or three attempts and it was done then just pull your cables through, no nasty wires on show :thumb:

Re: Number Plate Light

Hi Phil,

I did this with my Sumo and yes it is fiddly - took maybe an hour. Patience required.

I used a nlyon cable puller I'd bought a few years ago from Screwfix for £5 or so. Drilled a hole in the raised part of the underside of the boot just outside the hinge. Drilled another hole at the booton just under where the light fixes and fed the puller through. Attached the cable pulled it through.

If memory serves correct there are some photos on Tony Breski's site

Re: Number Plate Light

Alternatively fix the wire to the inside of the boot lid with stick on cable clips (B&Q) and then glue carpet to the recessed part of the boot lid.
I also did the whole of the boot interior with the same carpet.
You need to use felt like carpet rather thab you thick Axminster in order to fit it to shape inside the wings.
Also best done outside in order to avoid being overcome by the fumes of the glue.
Unless of course you like that sort of thing.

Re: Number Plate Light

The Sumo demo car at Stafford this weekend had the number plate light wire run through the inner moulding on the boot.

Re: Number Plate Light

I used one of premier wiring's cheap 2 pole connectors along with their bi-wire (looks like speaker cable) for wring the light, have removed the bootlid several times without any wiring hassles

Re: Number Plate Light

Hi guys

Tried feeding the cable along the inner moulding, but got my "mouse"stuck twice (they're still in there!!) Tries various methods with various materials but failed every time. They go so far then get stuck. Tried it in both directions around the lid but still got stuck. Apart from over the top don't now my next move!!

Cheers

I had the same problem, I eventually gave up and just fastened it to the underside of the boot lid, I managed to get away with just 1 live wire as I used the boot catch as the earth through the chassis, only problem was if you opened the boot the number plate light went out, but not a problem. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Try This!!

Drill an extra hole half way, this makes it a lot easier to
find the wire, and then continue to thread through
to the bottom entry.

Then put a blanking grommet in the extra hole!!
Worked for me.
