Re: sumo doors

Hi Alaska (Got a name??)

I found the driver's door fitted reasionably ok, but it didn't matter what I did with the passenger door, the best I can get is a large gap at the top front. It fits ok everywhere else, but I've tried all combinations of hinge and door adjustment, but it looks as if that's the way it has to be.
There are multiple posts on this subject if you do a search.
Ok if you are painting, you can use some filler etc. Not so good if you are keeping gel coat.

Sorry this is no help, but I've been round it all.

Cheers

Phil

Re: sumo doors

Alaska, fitting the doors is the sumo equivalent of an apprenticeship/initiation/rite of passage
The proverbial pain, but rewarding when its finally done right. The fit for the doors is not great - others have said that the Sumo moulds were made from a crashed Cobra, which accounts for the vagaries in the body.
I've included a picture of the gap for the passenger door. Note: it's still a little low at the rear - but I'd just discovered that I'd aligned the front 1/2 " out and was in the process of fixing that.
I fitted the passenger door first, and contrary to what others have said, found it straightforward compared to the drivers side - I had to manipulate the body much more on that side - even though i had to start from scratch after getting the alignment right.

Good luck !
Rich

Here's a picture of my passenger door gap.:thumb:

Anyone who has fitted a pilgrim door correctly will be able to get into a Zen like state to see the image of budda reflected in the door skin

Re: sumo doors

I over come this abortion by building up the edges with filler, its just been painted and its a perfect gap all round, slightly bigger at the front of both doors to stop it hitting the tub in the fully open position but never the less one of the ebst ive seen by far. This obviously wouldnt work on a gel coat finish and I admire you guys that ahve to do it.

Re: sumo doors

Graham
you can get a reasonable gap all round on both doors it just takes quite a while to get there. One tip is have you chamfered the bottom sills where they meet the chassis. If you reduce by about 20mm from front to back the fit is much better and also seems to help with some of the other problems.
