It's been a while, but now i'm back....and need some help.

Hi,

It's been a while since I've posted here - mainly because the car passed SVA about 9 months ago, and I've been busy ever since - I have made time to drive it a bit!

Anyway, I have a couple of issues I need some suggestions on - if you'd be so kind.

The first is that there has always been a horrible noise from the back-end - somewhere around the suspension, but I cannot narrow it down. Now I have abit of time I would like to sort it. If I put the car up on some ramps - and me underneath I cannot see/feel anything that is loose.

I thought it may have the half-shafts - the bolts that screw them to the diff kept vibrating loose, but have sorted that with some thread lock. If I grab the rear nudge bar and bounce the car up/down there is no noise at all. The noise seems to only happen on rough road - ie any of my local (hastings) a/b roads.

This is very annoying in slow traffic as it sounds like the rear suspension/drive is falling apart - it sounds like a tool box rattling around, but it can be heard over the engine.

The noise still happens even under power. Any suggestions? oh, - Granada based final drive.

2) I changed the horn a couple of weekends ago, and an curious as to how anyone routes the wire through the boss to their push buttons. I have used a longer piece of wire - looped back and forth - and then placed it to one side of the shaft - inside the boss.

3) Since replacing the steering wheel, the steering lock now seems to click/lock 2 times - it never used to. ie once the key is out of the ignition i can turn the wheel to the left; it clicks, then again; it clicks then once more; it clicks - but then does not turn any more. - Perhaps my steering lock is knackered?

Any advise is appreciated.

Duncan.

ps. Have attached some piccys for you all to wow at (I hope! - well, i'm happy with it anyway

Hi Kevin,

The handbrake handle is a Momo one. It is not wood, but plastic/wood effect. Suits the interior and matches the steering wheel.

I cannot recall where I got it - but think it was a local car store. You should be able to pick one up at halfords or somewere on the web.

Thanks,

Duncan.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the offer.

I've borrowed a better set of ramps from a mate, and will have a look underneath again this weekend.

If I don't have any luck then perhaps I'll take you up on your offer.

Many thanks,

Duncan.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the offer of help - i'll keep your number cloase at hand!

When/Where/How often are the meets normally held?

Cheers,

Duncan.

P.S. I should say that although I call the car "my car" it's actually a mate of mine who owns it. I helped build it over the last year or so - so it kind of feels like mine! I just get fed up with saying "A mate of mine is building a Pilgrim Sumo - which I'm helping him with"....as you can see it's easier for me to say "It's mine, all mine"

Well, he can't drive it at the moment 'cause he's done his leg in () - so it's as good as mine at the moment!!!!

The regular se region meets are held at the grasshopper in westerham on the 4th sunday of every month at midday. We also have a calender posted under regional roundups as a sticky, its in excel so easy to download. There is another cob in hurst green and one in tenterden and of course alaska in staplehurst we will have to all meet up and travel to the grasshopper together, not forgetting Chris over in lewes or nearly, and when plod (eastbourne)gets his new one we will almost have enough to persuade the others to come and visit us one sunday.
