Van for the chassis

Anyone else hired a LWB transit to collect it? If so, did you need the "jumbo" transit or just a LWB?

Pilgrim tell me it's nearly 12ft and will fit in a LWB. Ford tell me their LWB's only have 10'6 load length. Something don't fit.

thanks for info.

Re: Van for the chassis

Picked up chassis and body in a LWB luton with tail lift, rear of the car was resting on the tail lift with the shutter up. Mr Plod stopped me on the M23 checked all was tied down nice and secure then sent me on my way.

So yes it will fit with a tad of overhang

Re: Van for the chassis

Maybe worth measuring up a Mer high cube sprinter van, they're 4.2m long inside the back (can't remeber the wdith), and drive really easy; about £58 a day to hire locally (Beeston van hire)

Re: Van for the chassis

Go for a hi top extra length Merc Sprinter van. I got two AK chassis, bolted together in the back, with enough space to put a lexus V8 and gearbox lump across the back of the van, plus all the metalwork, wishbones, driveshafts, pedalboxes etc, and the van didn't even feel it.

They have governed top speed on new ones however so that 78 is the max flat out, older ones can reach the ton easy.

Cheers,

Tony

Re: Van for the chassis

Ditto,

For the chassis any old trailer / transit will do, but the body, if its the same size as the GD, which i'm guessing it will be, you can't beat the LWB Merc.

Re: Van for the chassis

The Merc Sprinter is about 2" too short for the Pilgrim chassis. What is 2" amongst friends? A hell of a lot when you can't close the back doors. Go for the Transit LWB and nothing else.

See my account of the day I picked up my chassis with a Mercedes Sprinter on my web site (look under Howlers)

Err, NOT!

The standard one maybe, but the LWB gave me enough room to fit the bodyshell in AND fit a large box behind the boot, AND close the roller door. (See pics a few posts up) If a bodyshell will fit, a chassis will have to!

Re: Van for the chassis

I love it.
I thought the Ford versus Chevy debate was the hottest scene on here. Looks like its going to be overshadowed by the Luton versus Spriter. Come on guys give it some rice. If it gets to a frenzy I might try sparking it up on the Club Cobra site.
