Electrics HELP!!!

Hi all

ok i'm at the part i really wasn't looking forward to, the wiring!!!
Now most fo the loom supplied from pilgrim makes sense and i can follow about 90 percent of it.

BUT

there are a few areas where im stuck and im wondering what do to, so can anyone help with adivce or photos would be nice

ok firstly, the electirc pump is situated on the passenger side of the car but the loom shows the electric pump going into a small block? do i need to take this off of just extend a wire from the block to the pump?

second, does anone have phots showing how you have linked all the mass of wires around the steering column?

third the wires going into the instruments on the dash, is this straight forward or are more blocks needed, again the pilgrim loom shows all wires going into 1 block, so do i just take these out?

forth im fitting an auto Chevy gearbox and was wondering how the speedo linked to it, is it the same as a manual? has anyone else done this, im using a quicksilver quick shifter.

im so close to starting the engine, but i just need a little help on finishing the electrics off.

thanks

Ja

Re: Electrics HELP!!!

the terminal block in boot needs to be plugged into male end (supplied with loom) and out of this if my memory serves me one cable to pump and two cables to fuel sender, earth pump down to chassis.yes the mass of cables at steering colunm is confusing, first you need to identifie which cables are for dash and which are for colunm, you will then be able to loom cables. most of the dash canbe wired on abench and be plugged into loom these plugs should be supplied.good luck iam a spark and still found it challenging!! p.s.try to solder connections whereever poss it will be worthwile in the long run.

Re: Electrics HELP!!!

No Tony this is how it should look

All the dash connections can be made with plug and socket connectors then it's easy to remove if needed. I agree with coomers that all joints should be soldered where possible even where they are crimped as well, could save you alot of grief in the future.

Re: Electrics HELP!!!

my box is a BW65 and I'm using an ETB electronic speedo and daisy wheel on the end of the prop shaft which is fairly common practice - the inhibitor switch needs wiring into the main feed from the ignition switch to the starter motor - hope that helps

Re: Electrics HELP!!!

The socket in the boot, has fuel pump, Tanker sender and number plate light connections. Check with the wiring harness diagram in the build manual for the colours. It was given a copy of the wiring dia which had been enlarged by 2 this really helped to trace the colours etc. I then ided each bundle and labled with masking tape intially just to help reduce the "oh my G*d" feeling everytime I looked at it. Even the coloumn wires eventually worked out OK( but did take 2 months of looking and moving on to another job)

Re: Electrics HELP!!!

Got alittle bit more done!!
after laying it all out and gettnig a friend to help, lable stuff, your right its not a bad as it seems.
1 sticking point tho, which i think i should point, this may be being silly, but on the lights i would have thought that blue would connect to blue!!! WRONG!! when i wired up all the light they work back to front! ie the brake lights were on fully so when the brake was pressed the 2nd elliment wasnt been shown at all, same as the front!
in case anyone has a similar problem!
oh and it took me an hour to figure to out why some of the light werent working!!!!
coz the main loom in the dash has to be earthed! i forgot about this little item! ops
but all working now, apart from right indicator?

ive installed my autogear box and quick shifter after customizing a little housing for it under the tunnel! made sure i left enought room for the prop shaft!
of course this got in the way of the handbrake so had to move that back 5inch! and you nkow the handbrake cable......it only just fits in the normal place, well it was no where near now!
BUT got that sort at a ship chandlers! they cut it and re-crimped the ends, lovely job for £3. all works beautifully now
gonna try and fire the enige this weekend and have a little drive in the chassis now i have just about everything sorted on this

cheers
