3point Harness!

Hi guys

has anyone put in some 3 point harnesess in to their sumo?
if so how did you fit it to the body?

ive been told i need to get a heavy duty C bracket made up and bolt to chassis and then through body. I know the standard seat belts are those normal side pulling ones that personnally i dont like the look of.

so any suggestions or photos of how anyone has done it would be brill.

cheers

Ja

Re: 3point Harness!

Ja,

I'm in the process of doing this also. I have some pictures from another member, I'll try and find them. In order to fit them you need to get the measurements from Pilgrim for the lower seatbelt mounts as they differ from the ones for the inertia reel belts.

The top mount for the belt goes through the body between where the single roll hoop goes and then through a metal bracket which is glassed into the body.

Ill look for the pictures,

John

Re: 3point Harness!

Can I request a copy of those pics too?

BTW - Pilgrim told me you can also take a thick bar of steel, bend 90 degrees at each end then bolt to body/harness at the top and chassis at the bottom as an alternative to glassing it into the body.

Re: 3point Harness!

Paolo

I did exactly as you describe but be aware that the top bend needs to follow the angle of the top of the body. It is not square to the chassis.

I also had a 1" square section "spine" welded top to bottom to give greater strength.

I use a 4 point harness but if I were to do it again, I would use a 3 point.

Paul

Re: 3point Harness!

Paul B I think I stole the first pictures from you at some stage! Hope you don't mind me putting them up now.

The first picture is of the bracket and the second is a shot from a Pilgrim factory built car's top mount for the 3 point harness.

Re: 3point Harness!

is that bracket in the pic available commercially, or is it a home-made job?

Re: 3point Harness!

I'm about to make up some harness mounts for mine and am going to make something similar to the attached picture. This is from a car Pilgrim built.

Paul - why would you change to 3 point rather than 4? I thought 4 point were easier for access and would have chosen to go this route but for the impression I had that the outer top mount would be too low for SVA. I think it was Tony Holmes who told me that. Did you have any SVA issues with mounting height?

John - If Paul can claim your first picture, I think I can lay claim to your second

Alan

Re: 3point Harness!

Alan, I'm glad you claimed the picture, I saved it and didn't write who it belonged to! The picture you attached is excellent.

I'm using 3 points also for the SVA point you mentioned. I think it looks better just having one mount too.
