Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

Hi Neil,
Struggling to understand your first sentence, but I believe you are suggesting that the original cast manifolds on early V8's may be adapted to mate to the Pilgrim sidepipes?

Westy that's how I read what Neil wrote!

Kevchard I agree with you, Pilgrim have always been pretty prompt with everything we've ordered.

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

hi guys
yes these manifolds can be fitted either way round ...to exit at the front of the block or rear..?not the best flowing manifold *available but probably better than a lot of those available as replacements!!
*not so much flow actually as balance between cylinders....ie 'headers aim to equalize the lengths to create an even exhaust pulse...(proven not actually neccessary..even downright harmfull to getting a good smooth 'power curve'!!):-}

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

Just in case these come your way, GD headers will not fit onto a sumo.
I had a pair of thethese as my engine was previusly in a GD, - they won't fit without extra welding.

For V8 conversion, you may need a bigger rad (most use a sierra desel rad), and you may need some different rad hoses. Your tacho will need converting to 8 cylinder operation.

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

Thanks for the advice chaps.
Has nobody any second hand Pilgrim type headers to suit sidepipes?

I will avoid any GD headers - not sure whether to attempt utilising the cast manifolds as fitted to my P6 motor - maybe as a last resort.

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

I made my own 1st fix jobs.

They work..

Not 100% efficient me thinks but makes a good noise.:-}

Not a job for the faint hearted, especially when you plonk a V8 where it was designed for a V6!!

Talkng of which

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

Hi Dean
Gave exhausty bloke a deadline of yesterday or money back, He phoned me and offered money back into my bank. But he aid he was going to be on with pipes this weekend, so i relented and extended till monday.
Petrol tank seems to be going the same way, but least i have not paid a bean for that one tho.
Any cheap places for 'aero' fuel caps?
Cheers

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

hi if you look at these pictures you'll see how the manifolds can be replaced from one side to another ...as the p5 down -pipes exit at one end only and not in the cetre as p6 types ..shown below is the p6 ...-so imagine this dumping out one end only not in the centre....and then what it might mean if your chassis is in the way of normal types ...:angry:
this may cure such a problem and the manifolds are tough as old boots!!
not like some of the flimsy after market types!

Re: Pilgrim V8 Rover exhaust manifolds

Paolo, UnixKid,

Would you guys mind taking a picture from the top of the engine ? I want to see how far the exhaust closest to the bulkhead is bent... I have moved my RV8 way inside the bulkhead, and I want to see if it bends enough or not... ie should I have'm custom build or buy the Pilgrim ones.

Too bad that they don't have 4 that come outside of the body in 1.

Michael
