Windbreak?

I've a 10 year old Pilgrim with a single, full width roll bar. Does anyone know of a windbreak that could be fited to the rollbar to reduce draught on the back of the neck at speed. NO it's not for me, it blows my wife's hair about, and if I find one, she'd be more interested in riding in it, especially during cold weather!

I thought of a perspex sheet, but they very quickly scratch and look tatty. My son had a mesh shield on his MGF, but I don't know of anyone who makes one for a Cobra.

Also, the expanded metal grilles for front body openings stifle the flow of cooling air to my radiator, I need the fans on permanently. Does anyone know of an open mesh alternative? I don't want to run the risk of having an open radiator grille.

Thanks,
Tony

Re: Windbreak?

Tony

I use some industrial 10mm thick Macrolon machine guard material for my "tart screen" and it is extremely useful in reducing the buffeting especially on motorways etc. It can still scratch but does not stand out too much visually like a mesh screen would.

With regard to the radiator mesh, Pilgrim's seem to be very fine but the B&Q version works very well being slightly more "open".

Hope this helps.

Paul

Re: Windbreak?

Hi Paul,

How did you fix the Macrolon to the roll bar? Any chance of some photos?

Cheers

Steve

Speak to Tinka, he has the very setup that you are looking for, I think he got the kit from M&M Classic Car Components who are at all the shows, details below

Re: Windbreak?

Although the standard mesh grilles supplied by Pilgrim restrict airflow, the standard fan switch, unless they've changed it, is also on the low side.
Changing this to a higher temp version will give a reduction in the "fan on" time with no detriment to the engine.

Seconded. The standard pilgrim fan switch was/is 82/64 Ie It comes on at 82 degrees and goes off at 64 degrees. MUCH too low Hence why the fans stay on

On the front grill issue, Yes the expanded ally mesh does restrict upto 60% of airflow due to the opposing angles of the mesh! Better in my opinion to fit a 1/4" Weldmesh screen just in front of the rad Handy sized sheets of Weldmesh can be had from Homebase.

Attached a few more Windbreak pics courteousy of Kev Davis :thumb:

Tony,
I too had troubles hearing the nagging at high speed but my solution is more beautiful! See lhttp://www.cobraclub.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5524&c=3016es It also makes many more winter days into Cobra days!
Regards
Jeremy

Steve

I used 5 velcro straps that allow me to take it off and put it back on quite easily. I used some small translucent self adhesive buttons from B&Q that are used to stop drawers banging shut, between the macrolon and the roll bar as well as some "D" section rubber strip along the bottom to seal to the body.

I will try and get a few photo's to post up.

Paul
