Inner wing panel heat protection

Hi,

We fitted the inner wing panels to stop the heat from the engine bay getting into the cockpit. To do this we bonded in aluminium panels and then used a layer of ceramic aluminium coated heat mat which we bought from Car Builder's Solutions. Now there is no heat at all getting through to the cockpit. I just thought I'd let you know about the heat mat because it's a really useful item and I remember a post a while ago about someone asking what the best option for heat prevention would be. That's my recommendation,

John

Re: Inner wing panel heat protection

Hi,

I need to fit these things also (sick of getting too hot when driving!) my question to you is:

How did you create the template, ie how did you get the shape needed from the car?

Regards
Garry

Re: Inner wing panel heat protection

Garry it was a bit fiddley but we used a bit of cardboard (thin stuff that you can easily fold over to the shape required) and put it into the space between the body and chassis. To get the contour of the space we just folded over the cardboard at the edges so when we pulled it out we had a rough shape.

Once we had the rough shape we used a pen to draw around it then cut it out. We used that as a template for the aluminium, then stuck that in using high temperature sealant then added the ceramic cloth covering.

If you leave the car running in stationary position and put your hand on the bodywork in front of the heat protection it is hot and behind it is very cool so it does work!

Here's a photo or two:
