It passed

Hi,

Just back from passing my SVA at leighton Buzzard, had one point to rectify, the boot hinges, was allowed at the end of the test to stick some carpet allong the top of the hinges, a permanent fitting . Came away with my MAC and just waiting now for Northampton DVLA to issue my reg.

Mentioned this to robin at pilgrim and they are now going to look at including a fix for this problem in their sva kit.

Re: It passed

Congrats on the pass, was it first time?

Regarding the hinges, is this a point that is down to the individual tester? I assume it was a radius problem?

Is it just me, or do you think Pilgrim would be better off selling SVA compliant parts rather than sending out more bits of rubber to stick on the car for the SVA test?

I was hoping to get my car through without the SVA fudge kit, but the hinges are already on.

Anyway, enjoy the car and lets see some piccies.

Graham

My opinion is worth slightly less than you paid for it, in fact I think I owe you.

Re: It passed

Hi,

Second test date, didn't get to the first one though :boohoo: , so I suppose I did pass first time ( with a little mod on the hinges).

I'm surprised that VOSA allow what is blatant changing of parts, the examiner even said he knew that parts would be swapped, once it passed. The pilgrim sva kit only takes a few minutes to put on, it may save some hassle and its free.

Re: It passed

Congratulations Paul! It's a good feeling isn't it?

Graham, the SVA inspector spent about 5 minutes looking at our boot hinges too. We had originally glued on split pipe because we weren't sure whether they passed or not. He said this wouldn't work because they were temporary.

Anyway he got out his radious tool and that funny metal half sphere that is meant to be someone's knee or head and deemed that the hinges are a pass. There is a small part of them that has a radius less than required where the front part of the hinge meets the back part but this can't be contacted by the sphere so it passes.

Hope this helps,

John

P.S Some sort of plastic hinge may be worth adding to Pilgrim's SVA kit just in case...

Re: It passed

Congratulations.

I love reading about SVA passes here - it is the end product of so much work - blood sweat and tears!

When you stat to drive the beast, please take it easy until you are used to it, because much as I like to hear about SVA passes, I also hate hearing about accidents!

And I don't like sorting out the injuries that occur from accidents, see too many doing the day job.

Hopefully get it up to rockingham for a play :drive: and get used to it in a safe enviroment:thumb: if not I'll have a nice gentle drive

Nice One Paul Well Done and ENJOY :thumb:
On the hinge front, I really can't see why Pilgrim continue to use the Imp hinges I don't know how much they charge for them? But S&J's SVA compliant hinges are only £30 and look ten times better IMO

Re: It passed

Chris are those hinges the ones that a lot of Daxs seem to have?

I'd like to see internal hinges personally (or not see as the case may be...)
