Brake caliper slide

Hi,
Whats the best way to clean up brake slides? I've tried wire brushing and cleaning with Gunk but they still look rubbish? Can you paint with ordinary hammerite or do I need high temp paint?
Any other ideas?

Cheers,
Malc

Re: Brake caliper slide

A brake slide is the part of the whole brake arrangement that slides in/out of the main body of the caliper. Its where the outboard brake pad sits.

Re: Brake caliper slide

I bought one of the brake caliper paint kits. It came with some chemical spray that you put on, then scrub with a wire brush and paint. They came up clean but without paint they look very messy.

The paint in the kit is heat resistant, though I suspect hamerite would be ok unless you were thrashing around a lot. To be honest the finish of the paint in the kit is crap, the paint just seemed too thin and I didn't get the coverage I was hoping for.

I would also say that if you are fitting halibrands you can't see the brakes anyway so if I did it again I wouldn't bother, just a quick scrub up.

I went on to exchange my rears for recons, these had been anodised and they look nice and shiny.

Cheers :thumb:

Flap wheel on a drill will get rid of all the old crap, paint with red oxide then a couple of coats of Smooth Hammerite. :thumb:

Re: Brake caliper slide

I eventually tried wirebrushing using a drill attachment followed by paint. Looks an absolute treat.
Thanks for the advice.
