Locking brake pipes to the Calipers

Hi,
if someone could show me a close up piccy of where the flexi pipes goes into the calliper I would be most grateful.

The problem I have is that any nuts I can find to act as lock nuts, which I understand are an SVA requirement, seem to cut into the edges of the recess of the calliper. (not very well explained, sorry)

Should I have a washer in there, or an oversized nut?

Thanks!

Graham

Hi Graham. No need for locknuts as far as I know The threaded end of the pipe seals on a tapered seat inside the caliper. Or in the case of a banjo fitting is sealed with a copper washer either side of the banjo

I shouldn't think you need a locknut on the calipers, just a copper sealing washer should be sufficient.

However, you will need a lock nut on the other end of the flexible hose. This is where the end of the flexible pipe is attched to the hard copper brake pipe, that joint should be supported by a plate off a robust and non moving part of the chassis and the flexible pipe lock-nutted to the support.

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks guys, I did wonder as there isn't really a lot of room for a lock nut.

The fittings I have seal in the cupped base of the caliper as Chris mentioned so there is no need for a washer. I'll take them off then, they made tightening it all up harder than if they weren't there.

Cheers !!

Graham
