Question Sumo MkII v Sumo MKIII bodywork

Hi all,

Could anyone tell me if there are differences between the bodywork of a Sumo MKII and a Sumo MKIII? If so what are they?

Hi - I think that they are one and the same (later Mk III body will fit the Mk II chassis).

Pete.

I think the rear arches maybe slightly different affecting the 'dish' you can get on the wheels. Best talk to Tony Holmes to be sure.

There are only a couple of cosmetic differences such as the wheel arches and the top radius of the doors.

Hi

I have a late MK2 Sumo and was told by Pilgrim that a MK3 body would fit my chassis. Mk3 doors don't have exterior handles and at the front, the position for the overrider fixings are marked.
HTH Stu.

Sumo bodywork.

I have an early (93) Sumo Mk2. I have recently had a set of wheels supplied by Image wheels. The fronts fitted perfectly, but the rears were much too wide on the outer rims. Image said that they were what they normally supplied to Pilgrim, so I guess the Mk3 rear wheel arches are wider on current models. Hope this helps.
Regards Jerry.

Is it the body that is different or the axle width?

Stu.

Hi Stu.
Since the drive train and diff are fitted unmodified on both models, I guess that the track must be the same. I can only assume that it is the body width that is different.
Hope this helps.
Regards Jerry.

I agree the axles are fitted unmodified, but they are different donors.
MK2 Sumo is Cortina 3/4/5 or Granada Mk2.
MK3 Sumo is Sierra or Granada MK3.

Stu.

Den Tanner told me that he widened the back of the MkIII so that wheels with a larger dish could be fitted. This seems consistent with the above posts. The dish on the MkII wheels is much less than on the MkIII. If you look at old pics this is also the case - cortina and MkII (old style) granada donor cars have rear wheels with similar dish to the front wheels. But as I said, best talk to Tony.

Kevin

- dont believe any wheel data in any pilgrim build manuals - they always seem out of date!
