Question Converting Rover 3.9 EFi to carb

Anyone know how easy it is to convert a 3.9 injection Rover V8 engine to run off a carb? Is is just a matter of buying a inlet manifold and carb and slapping it on? Well perhaps not that simple, or is it?
I have been offered a rover 3.9 with no ECU that I was thinking of putting in my Sumo?

I was wondering if anyone had done the same and had any advice whether it can be converted to run off a carb, where to buy things from and cost.

I have had no dealing with Rover V8 engines until now, so everything is new to me.

Many Thanks in Advance.
David

Is it a runner - have you heard it?
Do you know you wont have to rebuild it throughout?
If not, assume its a rebuild job, and offer £ appropriately.

Just my tuppence worth.

Don't do it. Keep the efi, junk the distributor and fit a Megasquirt. Best thing since sliced bread. There's loads of info on the 'net and this forum, if you've any specific questions just ask.

It is just a case of taking the inlet manifold off and fitting a carb manifold and carb with air filter and throttle cable etc. Ensure you use a low pressure fuel pump too.

I'm looking for a 3.9 engine so if you decide against going that route would you please pass on the details to me, cheers

Whoops, Er yes it is simple i did it some years ago. decide whether you want to use the rover ecu or go megasquirt then pick up a full efi kit off ebay (hotwire system is better but flapper type will do. you'll need a high pressure fuel pump and a return line back to the tank too plus a proper efi fuel filter before the injectors. It's then simply a case of replacing everything from the inlet manifold upwards and wiring in the ecu (the rover one comes as a seperate loom). If you'd like any more info let me know and i'll pm you my number for you to call for a chat sometime

Thanks for the advice all..

Engine is a runner, but would need pulling apart for a check over.
Anything I should watch out for?

MegaSquirt might be an option. I will have to look into it further.
I did have a quick google and it looks quite alot too it.
How easy is it to fit and setup a MegaSquirt?
Really I want to go for the quickest/least work option to getting it running.
But I guess once installed the MegaSquirt is much easier to adjust/tune.

Cheers,
David
