Progress Report

Howdy

Haven`t been around for a while so I thought that I´ll give you fine people a short build update.
Finally go the dash completed hell of a job to wire up.I used aviation grade plywood 5mm.Difference is it has more layers than the usual retail stuff.I got the curve of the body by wetting the center part of the dash and then putting some weight on the center and elevating the edges. If you leave that to dry you should get a fairly matching bend.
After that I got 5mm closed cell foam and glued that in place.
Working with leahter wasn`t as difficult as I thought and I got it fastened without any wrinkles.

Got the doors back on now.I was prepared for the worst seeing my spray painter hadn`t taken note of the amount of washers I had used to shim them for proper fit , but it only took me half a day for 2 doors so no worries there.

I used the door opening mechanism from an old Mini .The handel is also from a Mini.

Pipes are on ,still have some polishing to do as they have been coated with ceramics.

Hope to get on the road by September.

Take Care

Frank

I have just cured my "bonnet not closing because the air filter is to big/high " problem.

From KN I bought a KN1580 http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...px?Prod=E-1580 air cleaner insert and a 1.25" dropped base. I modified the filter top in that I drilled and additional hole forward of the original one so that the lid would move more to the rear. Then I marked the lid from below ,cut off the material I didn`t need and tidied up the edges with u-channel.

Regards

Frank

Thanks Guys

Currently saving my funds to pay for the most dreaded TÜV Inspection. Must be like SVA only with whips and chains and at a cost of 2000€ all up I better get a pass.

Hi Frank,

2000 € !
Wouldn't a registration in England followed by "import"to germany be an alternative ?
Best regards
Rainer

Hi Rainer

Well that would be a last resort due to the fact that the car is TÜV spec which is nearly the same as SVA but not quite.
All in all I guess it would add up to similar money either way taking transport, reg etc into account.

Regards
Frank
