Exclamation Snapped the prop this morning.

Engine was running well this morning... bit too well it appears.
I have managed to snap the prop
tin opened the tube.

Had to get recovered home.
Well almost didn't actually, as I haven't a toe hook on the car and had to persuade the recoverman to take it, as he wanted to refuse to recover it due to lack of a toe hook..

3hrs and a bend rear bumper later.......

Anyone recommend a somewhere to get an uprated propshaft made up..
Preferably local to Northants, Herts or Bucks

Picture to follow...

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

Your not alone........

I also snapped my prop shaft, a couple of weeks ago

I don't belong to the AA or RAC, I belong to DAD, 1 call and my dear old (75 year old) father is along with his tow rope

I know others have also had problems with their diff/prop, standard Pilgrim set-ups.

Whereabouts did your prop break?
What engine / bhp, have you got?

Mine broke because the Pilgrim diff bracket, was weak and bent, allowing the diff to tilt so much that the prop uj locked and snapped

I now have an up-rated diff bracket that holds the diff solid.

I can post photos if you need them?

Regards
Dave.F

Hi Dave.F

I was out for the ride with David this morning, and have pictures of the snapped prop. I'm not going to be able to load them until this evening though.
David's prop snapped in the middle of all places. It looks like it got out of round, then collapsed in on itself and tore apart like a can. No idea why. The pic is interesting though!

Cheers, Richard

You have to be mental to entertain building one of these anyway. Right??

Dave.F
Sorry to hear you had similar problems.. The diff mount is fairly solid on mine, as it consists of steel collars over 12:9 bolts directly onto the MKII subframe.
Front mount is fairly solid too, I guess why it has broke in the middle, about 1.5" from the weld. Probably where the tube has been weakened by heating from welding.???
Engine is a mildly tuned 3L V6.. Probably the torque that has killed my prop. bhp - not to sure on eitehr as it hasn't been to a rolling road yet. (Estimate around 180 bhp.)
I'd be interested in seeing your photos of your beafed up diff mounting, if you have some to hand.

Cheers,
David

Hi David,
I used these people Dave Mack Propshafts 024 7668 3239 as recommended by Legend.
I phoned Tuesday afternoon with a dimension, he phoned me Thursday to say it was in the post, and Friday morning it was on my doorstep.

Now thats a top service...

Mark

Have uploaded photos of strengthened diff carrier and the replacement rear diff mount that gets rid of the Ford jelly one to my gallery.

Have also attached two hefty brackets from the front of the diff and attached them to the chassis either side of the rear of the transmission tunnel

Hi Noel,

Er I wonder who that could be

Must say, he really done a great job on my rear wheel toe mod

The rear of my car feels much more precise and the LSD is the dogs.

Just got my repair carpets from Pilgrim yesterday, fitted same day and car is now nearly 100% perfect

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave, did you really notice that much difference? Pete says it was a very marginal improvement.

Tackling the bumpsteer mod at the weekend, mod already done the mod to the posts, just need to lower the rack and then do your mod to the chassis upright.

Pete has kindly volunteered to help and do the tracking after You must meet up with us sometime for a blat?
